Athan will be the starter this Saturday per TheGopherGuys on Twitter

Taking this with a massive grain of salt, but I also wouldn't be surprised...

I went to high school with one of the "The Gopher Guys."
Really good dude, he isn't one to post stuff for attention. He was a student manager for the team back in the 2000's. Loves the Gophers. He very well might have a source. Hey, good for him!

Either way, regardless of their post, my money was and is AK being the starter this weekend.

If you listen to Kirk C's press conference, I thought he slipped and said a couple things that made it sound like Athan would be playing. Can't remember exactly what it was but I remember thinking, I think he just slipped up and if I was NW watching this I would be like it's #8. I think it'll be 8. I think it was something like Athan will give us more, or with Athan we'll be able to, something to that affect.

I'm sure it's true, but if the Gopher start MO at QB and just bring in another lineman and forget about a real QB, we still win by 2 touchdowns this week.

I have little doubt that AK will start, but it's not because of this tweet.

I feel wrong for being a little giddy about this.

Hiding injury news is like icing the kicker. They both should be discontinued. Mickey Joseph at Nebraska was candid about Thompson not starting against Minnesota six days before the game.

I'm in the not giddy group, but I'm a fan of him. He brings a new dimension to our offense and I think the more snaps he gets, the better he (and our team) will be.

I feel bad for Tanner - he took a big hit (front and back of head) at Nebraska. Believe it or not, I think we've seen Tanners last college game.

The eight-yard run at the start of the third quarter when he froze the Husker's DE and the 55 yd toss against the wind did it for me. Regarding the pass, I was in Section 20, Row 95 and there was quite a breeze at the time.Trickett's FG's were also impressive for the same reason.

I’m happy to see him start but yeah um…

It’s not like he lit up Nebraska a ton and some of those passes would not fly vs other teams…

I think folks might hit reality hard if he struggles.
He averaged 11.4 YPA and rand for 9 YPC against Nebraska, that's pretty damn good. I have no doubt that he will have bumps in the road, but I don't know how anyone could even make an argument for not starting him on Saturday, regardless of Tanner's health. And I'm a bigger Tanner supporter than most around here.

I worry about Athan turning the ball over against a ball hawking defense like Iowa’s. At the same time I worry about even moving the ball at all against Iowa with Morgan and the more predictable offense. Overall though I think Athan’s mobility and stronger arm give our offense the best chance. But I don’t think it’s a no brainer easy decision.

I don’t know why you would wonder that.
