How does the conference realignment and the rise of the Gopher football program change the recruiting landscape?
Other teams in B1G West must be paying close attention to what Minnesota is doing recruiting wise especially with the Gophers quietly winning more B1G games under Jerry Kill.
Iowa, Wisconsin, Illinois, etc... will have to be concerned about the competition for neighborhood talent.
Will more D1 caliber Minnesota kids choose to stay home and play for the Gophers, or opt for other B1G schools?
Sure, the Gophers will still lose players like Onwalu, Hassenauer, Ragnow, Carlberg, and Green to top programs or conferences.
Right now, as Jerry Kill has said, he has to recruit players very hard to stay or come here. Programs like Alabama, OSU & Notre Dame pick and choose who they want.
Does it seem like other B1G schools are recruiting heavily in MN more so now than ever? I could be wrong on this.
Minnesota can't survive on regional recruiting alone. Jerry Kill has done a great job finding talent from the south and elsewhere. But, the Gophers need to win the neighborhood recruiting battles to remain competitive.
That is why keeping up with the arms race for facility upgrades is so important.
