Arkansas' Bret Bielema proposes Big Ten/SEC football challenge

This would be fun and is an interesting (albeit not new) idea, but won't happen. The B1G and PAC-10 agreed to a similar scheduling model a few years ago, but both parties backed away due to logistical concerns.

The logistical concern was stupid Notre Dame. USC and Stanford would not agree to give up that game.
It would have been awesome. It fails and we end up with Maryland and Rutgers....yuk.

Idea won't work.

With 5 conference road games for half the teams in the big ten every year it really can't work.

That half the teams would need a home game in the 5 conference road game years. It would eliminate games against other power 5 leagues and would create the need for 2 buy out games every single season.

Here is how a 2015 Big Ten-SEC Challenge could have played out, based on 2014 results:

Ohio State vs. Alabama - would be a good game
Michigan State vs. Missouri - MSU would win big
Wisconsin vs. Mississippi State - Wisconsin doesn't have the fire power
Nebraska vs. Georgia
Minnesota vs. Ole Miss - I am too biased to make an official prediction
Maryland vs. Auburn
Iowa vs. LSU
Rutgers vs. Florida
Illinois vs. Texas A&M
Penn State vs. Tennessee
Michigan vs. South Carolina
Northwestern vs. Arkansas
Indiana vs. Kentucky
Purdue vs. Vanderbilt

Bold is who I would pick to win.

Can we play them at home in November?

Actually could be possible. SEC already schedules a non-conf cream-puff game late, which I think is brilliant, like a mini bye week for them. Anyway, convincing them to forgo that game might be a tall task, but I'd definitely like it as a late season match-up.

Every now and then a blind squirrel gets a nut..Bert actually said something that makes sense...

hahaha yea right, they would never agree to that.
The logistics of this would be a nightmare. Ranking teams and then figuring out who plays where. I definitely would not be in favor of neutral site games. I don't want to have to travel outside of a bowl game or conference game. Thats asking too much for most fans in terms of the pocketbook.

Alas, an interesting idea. And i am all for it, just no neutral site (SEC HOME GAME) bull.

Already happens now with teams who play the Irish. This is not a far fetched idea.

I don't think it will be a problem. Most of the SEC fans I know would consider a late season game against a Big Ten team to be a "non-conf cream-puff."

Agree...even the recent converts. Have a buddy who is big ZOU fan. Raved about how much better the teams are in the SEC compared to B1G and Big 12. I then asked how two middle of the pack Big 12 teams could have been so competitive their first two years in the SEC...he really didn't have an answer.

Not true. Blind squirrels either starve to death or get eaten by other animals. Try finding one.

Can you please enlighten us on how you would go about identifying a blind squirrel? Doe they carry small twigs to brush upon the ground ahead of them? Do they look different?

The dark glasses are a dead give away.

You'd have to know home and away two years in advance to build your schedule. If that was fixed you'd always only be eligible to play seven of the fourteen teams in the other conference. If that were the case you'd start playing repeats because the same teams are on top each year.

I just don't see how it could work.

HA! He should want an SEC/MAC challenge so his Hogs would stand a chance of winning. On second thought, NM.

I didn't realize they made them.
