When it comes to Gopher Football, tell us whether you consider yourself to be part of the problem or part of the solution, and why!

always find it odd when people make posts like this without giving their answer first.

mplsgopherfan, are you part of the problem or the solution? And why!

I'm part of the solution. I am an elite CFB mind and share my elite opinions here on GopherHole for FREE when others make you pay for it. That gives insight to more folks and undoubtedly increases interest in the program - putting more butts in the seats, raising revenue, and inspiring the players to play better. This increases the AD budget and the team's performance which in turn improves recruiting and gets even better players here to play. It becomes cyclical at that point. And again, I do this all for free so I am obviously part of the solution.

Overall, part of the solution by continuing to support the program to the best of my ability via tickets, etcetera.

Sure, no problem. I consider myself part of the solution. Here are a few reasons why:

  • I attended all 13 games last year and plan to attend 11 games this year (work schedule makes 2 road games nearly impossible to attend)
  • Renewed my season tickets, added 2 seats, and upgraded to a higher zone. Intent with the 2 extra tickets is to introduce Gopher football to more friends ... and hopefully make them fans!
  • Along with my season ticket renewal, I submitted my scholarship donation to my employer as part of our company's "Matching Gift" program. My spouse did the same ... so our donation was tripled (don't get me wrong, I hated the increase in scholarship donations and am thrilled that the 2017 increase was eliminated. However, I also still acknowledge that this is the world in which we live, and if we want to compete on a consistent basis with the "big boys" of the Big 10 (e.g. Ohio State Michigan, etc.), it will take money. We are far behind those schools in terms of financial resources in the AD.)
  • Planning to join the Goal Line Club this year
  • Donated a (modest amount of) money to the "Nothing Short of Greatness" campaign. Again, we submitted the donation to our employers "Matching Gift" programs.

That's what I've got off the top of my head.

Nobody asks a question like this without the implication they understand the problem and have the solution. It is rare problems are so obvious the solution ban be arrived at without heated debate.

What if football's problem extends beyond poor decisions by the coaches, to bad negotiating and leadesrship of the athletic director, to the President and the regents? A movement to replace such people with those sympathetic to athletics would surely be met by jeers of treason by many supporters, even if that is the root of the problem.

Problem I would guess. I haven't sent money to the University since the Lou Holtz short regime. Bought a golden brick for the practice facility (think Metrodome) they say is crappy now. Had season tickets even though I lived in Milwaukee for those two years. The University has not wanted a winning football program. It takes a focused approach to developing excellence at that level and I've not seen it since Holtz (who couldn't apparently see it either as he bolted for Notre Dame).

Want me to be part of the solution? Have Kaler announce that winning the Big Ten championship is his #1 priority. Show me specific steps that will be taken to accomplishing that goal. Think of it as Kennedy saying we will put a man on the moon with 10 years. Think big and act bigger.

Best answer.

I go to 1-2 games a year and purchase $10-15 worth of concessions at each game, I occasionally wear Gopher apparel on the weekends giving free advertising for the program, I purchase a cable TV package that includes BTN. Verdict: Solution.

So, what is the problem?

No school president #1 priority should be athletics. With that said kaler went out and got great ad hire and advanced budget. He's pushed for facilities.

If the President of the University of Minnesota has athletics as his #1 priority, his priorities are grossly out of order and he needs to resign immediately.

You maybe a better fan but a poor reader. Big Ten championship, who gives a crap about UM athletics outside of moms and dads. Spare me the hockey and basketball bs.

Honest question: What specifically did the administration do during the Holtz years that was so much better/different than what is being done now? I mean in the last 7-8 years, we have built an on-campus stadium and begun the construction of some actual major conference type facilities.

How do you solve a problem like Maria?

They asked me if I knew anything about power plants. I said as much as anyone I know. They asked how well I understood Theoretical Physics. I said I have a theoretical degree in physics." They said Welcome Aboard.

I give them money, I go to games, otherwise I'm not sure I matter, but that's probably for the best... I have the stoopids.

So, this is an honest question and it deserves honest answers. I live in Houston, my wife and I are season ticket holders to some decent seats and we make two games a year. I would love it if our situation was different and it was easier to get to every game, but that's not the reality. Anyone that knows us in The Woodlands, a northern suburb of Houston knows we bleed maroon and gold and show tremendous love for our University. If you live in the Twins, support the Gophers to the best of your ability, speak optimistically instead of being a Debbie Downer and be proud of your state school, that's all I can ask of any of you. And, I do! Go Gophers
