Personally, I think he would be a very successful hire. At the same time, I do not trust that he would run this program "with class and integrity" because of things like him pulling recruits' scholarships a couple weeks before signing day, then falsely throwing some of the blame on the players:

If we end up hiring him, hopefully he's learned to treat recruits and players with dignity. Having Coyle as boss would certainly not help with that though.

This mess and you can still land Fleck? 100 times!

WEEEEEE don't have a choice. WEEEEE get stuck with Coyle's choice. Against all odds, let's hope it works out.

Honestly, I have no idea. Personally, I hated the slogans and little parlor tricks he likes to use. But then I took the time to learn about where the Row The Boat came from and I get it. I heard yesterday that he dressed up in full pads, did a Ray Lewis dance coming out of the tunnel and then dared someone to try and tackle him at the goalline. When I heard that, I thought he was off his rocker. Then someone enlightened me that it was just an elaborate way to reward a walk-on with a full scholarship. When it's all said and done, I wouldn't be disappointed with Fleck. For this program, that's a plus (hiring someone most people wouldn't be disappointed in).

Has this happened again since 2013?

I am all over the board on Fleck. Prior to yesterday, I would have said that he is probably the best realistic coach on the market. Now, I am getting cold feet with the guy.

It's just a hunch for me (I get it that it isn't logical), but he just doesn't impress me.

I was firmly in the Fleck camp yesterday, now, I'd pass. I'd prefer Klieman to Fleck. Either way, I'll support whoever the coach is, but this is starting to feel like disaster to me.

This only happened when he was an incoming coach in 2012.

He hasn't done it since, so I think its more likely it could be a one time thing. Didn't JJ drop one or two scholarships when he came in last year?

I actually agree. However, there are things here and there that worry me about him. This is one of them. At the end of the day, though, if we do get him, I'll be happy and hope that this isn't indicative of his character and it doesn't happen here.

Might be a moot point. He might not want the job. I bet WMU is working furiously on more funds for his contract.

Claeys f'ing dropped scholarships last year after firing the OC and QB coaches.

We know Claeys is gone and that Warmath, Holt, Dungy, Bierman, Mason, Wilkerson and Saban aren't coming here in 2017. He's had a special record in granted a very short time and he has a real live personality with a chance of creating enough energy to fill some seats. What the hell, let's let 'er rip and hope for the best. Besides, if things are to believed it's a done deal so it is clearly time to stop worrying and start moving forward. I didn't like the way Claeys got gone, but i didn't like Trump or Hillary either. Never-the-less, I've made a decision to worry about the things I can affect and Fleck isn't one of them.

Go Gophers!

Dropping a kid's scholarship is part of the game, a terrible part of the game, but part of the game.

I am fine with dropping a kids scholarship offer in mid January if it means we can get a better player. If that is what you are afraid of we truly will be average forever.

Whomever it is I'll go to the games and support them.

I don't mind taking a chance on PJ if that is the case. I do think there is some risk with PJ that other guys don't have, but coaching searches aren't science.

And with Madame Cleo gone, there's no chance for a seance to contact those guys either.

At least our AD can make a decision. He fired Claeys and he's hiring his replacement. Under any previous administration there would have been a committee consisting of at least 70% women wondering if we had interviewed any LBG candidates and a process that would have taken months.

Thank god that a similar type of committee had no impact on this coaching decision.

I purposely left the "T" out of LBGT, because a "T" hire would have required a capital budget for the bathroom expansion.

He would be a terrible hire, the right fit is pretty important as far as football is concerned, I don't see how he would fit Minnesota's culture at all. If he didn't win pretty quickly his schtick just wouldn't fly here.

We have a culture?

+1. It's a two-way street. As soon as players are prohibited from switching schools at the last minute, then we can talk about the "unfairness" of rescinding scholarship offers. Until then, too bad, so sad.

And if Kill/Claeys didn't start winning their "Brick by Brick" shtick wouldn't have flown here either.

I'm not sure it matters who we hire if changes aren't made in the Administration. The BOR could make one hell of a statement by firing Kaler but that's not likely to happen. As for Fleck, who knows. I never hire anyone that doesn't exhibit a high level of energy and enthusiasm for life. I don't know if Fleck can coach at this level but he will bring the energy necessary to move stones. Comparing him to Brewster at this junction is premature IMHO.

Yes I want Fleck. He's been at Western Michigan long enough so that we know he's the one that made their turn around happen. You don't get those kind of results by accident or by riding someone else's coat tails.

I don't like Fleck but would be ecstatic by the hire. It would mean that Coyle/ Kaler have a plan and a vision for the program. Not my plan or vision, but a plan none the less. Getting Fleck on January 5 would be an incredible hire.

I like him and have wanted him as the head man since I watched is segment on Gameday. I can't put my finger on it, he just has it. I was at the U during the Brewster years, he is not Brewster.

Kill was given time and was generally accepted, he didn't start winning for a few years, even Pitino hasn't been viewed that greatly, I'm sure age has a lot to do with it. Would someone with a personality like Fleck be tolerated through three consecutive losing season which is very possible. The experience has been that these types of personalities fail miserably at Minnesota, Wacker was pretty successful before he got here and was a disaster, Brewster was even worse. Guys like Mason and Kill, more low key tend to have the success.

Damn, I have a double out there! I said the same damn thing you did almost verbatim to a buddy of mine, even the Hillary/Trump deal! LOL. How dare you be the voice of reason! We can't change anything about it right now, we need to hope the best, we need to worry about only things we can control...good summary!
