Howden started as a true freshman, I believe.Fleck sends another supposed 3-star to the NFL in Ersery.
Terell Smith
Spann-Ford
Otomewo
Howden (might have been below a 3-star)
Schmitz
Mafe
Kief
Bateman, a 3-star then upgraded to 4-star very late.
Add on the 3-stars he didn't recruit in Winfield, Johnson and Cashman.
Were all these guys that underrated by the recruiting services? With the exception of maybe Howden who improved tremendously, they all seemed to have star potential the second they hit the field.
Seems like Fleck produces more NFL players than I remember other coaches producing. What was the number prior to Fleck? Something like 15 years since a offensive lineman was drafted? Wisconsin and Iowa putting some in the league every year. There's things we can whine about with Fleck, but his recruiting and development of players is not one of them. Ersery is another fine example.
We definitely are putting more guys in the NFL these days and also seeing guys have more success once they get there.Fleck sends another supposed 3-star to the NFL in Ersery.

There are about 100 NFL players from FCS on NFL rosters and almost 1/3 of them are from the MVFC.We definitely are putting more guys in the NFL these days and also seeing guys have more success once they get there.
As for the 3-star thing, most recruits are 3* guys and many of them make the NFL as well. Less a case of the recruiting services underrating them and more a function of the impossible task recruiting sites have of accurately ranking thousands of players across the entire country playing at different levels and against vastly different levels of competition.
It is why I have always put way more stock in coaches evaluations of recruits vs. what a site like 247 says.

Like the recruiting services, coaches also miss on evaluating talent out of high school.
Well deserved.

Yep, but at least coaches are actually meeting with the athletes and doing a deeper dive on them. Once you get past the top guys who attend a bunch of camps and are well known, the recruiting services are just looking at highlight videos for the most part when evaluating the bulk of the players. There are about 100 NFL players from FCS on NFL rosters and almost 1/3 of them are from the MVFC.

What about Daniel Faalele? Was he recruited by PJ? He's a starting tackle in the NFL. I don't believe he was highly recruited at all, right?
Thanks for the reminder of his star rating. He was a pretty highly touted 4-star out of IMG.
