Just wondering how is doing in the offseason and if he will be ready to go this spring at 100%.

Also, is Sam going to be penciled in as a starter this fall at linebacker? Hope so.
Go Gophers and Sam Maresh!!

I would have to think he will be "mike"
He is going to be a star!

If he earns it.....if not, then someone else will have the spot.

These open-ended comments are just crazy; you're like Doogie in that regard. "He fell off pretty hard..." What in the world does that mean? Doesn't have the conditioning, strength, what? If you can't be more informative, why bother posting anything like that. It's just another lame post, of which there are many, by you.

I took it as he fell off the wagon again, ie he's hooked on smack.

he fell off pretty hard for what i've heard.

Wow alot of insight there.

For what it's worth, at Joe Sensors coaches show during a break I overheard Mike Max asking Brewster about Sam, he said that "Kevin's(Cosgrove) been working with him alot", and he says he's going to be something special. Take it for what it's worth, no reason to lie or spin to Mike Max during a commercial break side coversation.

I would love to see any combination of the following: Cooper, Tinsley, Reeves, Singleton, and Maresh.

Cooper and Tinsley got a lot of experience this fall, so I would imagine they would have the inside track on starting.

Absolutely, Cooper and Tinsley will be 3 down linebackers, I would guess that we see a mix of Rallis/Singleton at the 3rd spot ala Mannion/Lawrence in 08.
Maresh looked pretty good to me in the few snaps at the stadium scrimmage he had. I know I saw him fill a hole and get a TFL. Singleton too looked really good at that scrimmage for whatever that's worth, i think he's a speedy guy with a nose for the ball and good tackling ability. Having solid and experienced starters like Cooper and Tinsley will only help transition some of the other guys, just like Campbell and Tripplett did for Cooper and Tinsley. Role players become rotation players who become starters.

Marsh needs to stay out of trouble

Sam has had his share of issues since joining the team. I hope he grows up and starts taking his life seriously.

Sam Maresh

Thanks for your post's fellow holers. Hope to see Sam right up there in the starting ranks this fall.

Barring any unforeseen medical problems of course. Go Gophers.

I love his potential, but his sideline "antics" and off the field issues have put a big dent in my belief that he is a star in waiting. If we see that he has stepped it up at spring practice, I will give him the benefit of doubt--but he needs to clean up his act.

I think Rengel and Grant are in the mix too.

I think Gopherfield meant Rallis.

Has their been anymore off the field issues than that 1 fight he got into (I'm not trying to sound sarcastic, I really just don't know)?

I think Rallis will see time in short yardage/running downs. If I had to bet, our linebacking corp next season will be Cooper, Tinsley, Rallis. I wouldn't be shocked to see us go some 3-4 (on passing downs), and I would expect to see a lot of Maresh (running downs), Singleton, and Reeves. I have a friend who is pretty close to the team (never gives inside info or anything like that) but he has given me pretty honest evaluations of players (he ragged on Hayo, told me Carter was the best CB on the team last season, etc.)...he told me that Maresh is good, but he thinks that Tinsley might end up being better than Cooper, and he is able to play in the middle. Essentially, his opinion is that Maresh would be starting most seasons for the U, but that my buddy actually thinks Tinsley might be the best player on the team. Take it for what its worth.

Good insight, thanks for sharing.

Maresh gets in one fight and he "needs to start taking life seriously"??? It was one fight, those of us who grew up in Champlin and wrestled(my brother wrestled for Maresh from 94-97) know that the Maresh's don't take $hit from nobody, and we need more guys on the team with winning mentalities like that.

That is precisely why I was wondering if he had gotten into more trouble than that 1 fight. While that fight is stupid and probably a sign of being a meat head and maybe not being a super nice guy. However, I don't think it is really that bad of a sign (if it was just the one fight).

Honestly, what do you think guys like Butkus, Singeltary, or Jack Ham would have done in that situation?

Considering that three starting linebackers were lost to graduation I am pretty jacked about what we have at that position. I think that Brewster's recruiting efforts will bear more fruit at linebacker this season than at any other position.

Since you mention it, have there been any updates since November (http://wcco.com/sports/maresh.suspect.assault.2.1316262.html)?

Isn't there some medical mental issues that often come along after the serious types of surgeries like Maresh had last year that really can't be explained as to the "why" they occur but they often do.
If I remember correctly depression, acting out, and others are some of the ones that occur.
Medical experts may know if this is correct or not.

I'm sure something like that can cause a kid to act out. However, I wouldn't call a 19 yr old kid that gets into a fight to be a serious problems. I'd think all of us know some great people who got into a fight at 18-19 yrs old.

Maresh was not involved in the fight, he got involved when it was over and that is when he was identified. He saw the fight happen but was not involved.

This is coming from the same group of fans who wanted Carters head when he got slammed by that rent a cop aka umpd. Typical old white MN fans.

You equate fighting with a private citizen to fighting with a cop?!?!?

Wow, you're brilliant!!!

"Typical old white MN fans"

1. Age discrimination
2. Race discrimination
3. State discrimination

3 Strikes- you're out.

Football players fighting

I certainly will not say fighting is a good thing, however many players acrooss then nation get in countless fights for whatever stupid reason. Seems to be the norm for college football players, I guess.

If you want to read something hilarious, check out the "fulmer cup scoreboard." They keep track of all fights, arrests, citations, pot possession, DUI's, thefts, etc. It is what it is.
