I realize this would go against the theme of the threads here lately, but does anybody have any thoughts, updates, or ideas on how we will fill out the recruiting class?

I heard Brew on the radio a couple weeks ago saying we will sign 26-28 players. We appear to have 21 commits so far.

Threads like this have gone around the last few weeks, but I wanted to start a new one to see if there are any updates or any new thoughts on the 2010 class.

In looking at Rivals and Scout, we appear to still be in the hunt for quite a few good-looking players. This list is an incomplete list of guys who have either visited and/or shown at least medium interest. Please comment on what you think of these guys, our chances of getting any of these guys, or provide any updates on their status:

Visited, have at least medium interest:

Jabari Price--DB--Soft verbal, any changes?

Zachary Allen--LB--Soft verbal to Wake Forest, still shows interest in us, same HS as DT commit Doral Willis

Dominique Sanders--ATH--Looks to be a very athletic kid that could play either side of the ball

Kenny Bell--ATH--Someone recently posted that he has us very high, visited TX Tech this weekend

Nduka Onyeali--DE/OLB--Good pass rusher, some say undersized?

Josh Huff--RB--Has us on top, visited Utah this weekend

Toby Durham--WR

Kevin Kisseberth--LB/TE--Has us on top

Tyrone Bouie--DB--Same HS as Toby Durham

Harold Legania--DL

Wesley Vincent--RB--No offer, 4.3 40 according to Scout, 4.4 according to Rivals. Wow!

Vincent Johnson--DL--no rating, Scout says we offered, Rivals says no

Visiting/Possibly Visiting

Rob Donovan Lewis--DB--Scheduled to visit this weekend

Brock Vereen--DB--Possibly visiting

Daniel Easterly--ATH--Illini commit--Possibly visiting

Wendell Beckwith--DL--Visiting in November--No rating

Others

Richard Ash

and

Antonio Ford--DTs--Both have us near top--HS teammates of Doral Willis and Zachary Allen

And the in-staters

Beau Allen

Tobi Okuyemi

That tall kid from Cretin

It will be interesting to see what news comes out after kids like Huff and Bell made visits this weekend. They are two that I see as being important to this class and both made visits to our biggest competitors in terms of signing them over the weekend. If they enjoyed their visit here more, they could commit soon.

mnboiler had a thread earlier that said something to the effect of Price had told Purdue he is re-opening his commitment. I think it's interesting because all the talk was that he wasn't as solid with us because of the weather.

It is still pretty early and I would not be surprised if many recruits choose to wait and see how this season turns out now to judge the direction of the program and the stability of Brewster's job. If it ends bad again then I wouldn't be shocked to see recruits jumping off the bandwagon like guests on the Titanic.

Thanks for your thoughts Debbie Downer. Brew isn't going anywhere, I'm guessing the rest of the class fills out quite nicely.

I bet we are going to add one or two JUCOs. Possibly a Linebacker or safety... and maybe another O-Lineman or Tight End.

I'd be happy seeing a Junior college TE recruit. Maybe Lair will turn out to be a solid TE, but as of now we seem to be lacking there for next year.

I think we can expect to see Brewster oversign this class by two or three putting us at 30 or 31 kids since there are always non-qualifiers. It's the same thing he did with the 2008 class.

Brock Vereen WILL be visiting this weekend, according to GI. Looks like a solid CB with good size at 6'0 190.

If the season continues on its current downward trend (and especially if there's a loss to either Illinois or SDSU), my hunch would be they'll start looking for more quick fixes (jucos).

I think our biggest need is a CB. Carter should be very good on one side but not sure on the other side.
Hard to know how we are actually doing with recruiting.
One service shows CB Rashad Knight as being interested in the Gophers and another service doesn't even have us listed.

Brock Green looks interesting. Both rivals and ESPN give him 3 stars but Rivals says 6 feet ESPN says 5'9", that is a bit of a difference. But he has a good offer list with Stanford on there and Oregon interested. I hope he enjoys his visit, especially if he is closer to 6 feet tall.

Also haven't seen this posted in the forum but the quick Q&A with Will Westman is pretty interesting. Massive kid 6'7" and he wants to play DT! He's only a junior but it sounds like the U is the only place for him.

I meant to ask about that in my original post, but forgot. Prior to that article, I had not heard anything about him. That size is certainly intriguing.

Anybody else have more info on Westman?

Agreed. Looked to me like the first pass ever thrown to Eric Lair (that I remember anyway) clanked off of his face mask....

The pass to Lair hit his chest, which is just a mistake of him letting the ball get to his body and not catching it with his hands. He has however been involved in some reverses and things of that nature this year. He has promise, don't go assuming that he is bad because he hasn't made a big impact yet when he has been stuck behind Tow-Arnett. Next year we will really see what he can do, and I would be shocked if we wasted a scholarship on a JUCO tight end.

He had a nice looking reverse against Wisconsin for 8 yards that showed off some athleticism. He was close to breaking it for another 15-20 yards, if I remember correctly. I'm excited to see him get a shot as a redshirt sophomore next year. I like Tow Arnett a lot (he reminds me of Kleinsasser...not because he is white but the way he basically stumbles/shuffles backwards for an extra 8 yards after the catch), but I am excited to see what Lair can add to the offense.

I'm guessing the 5'9 is the correct height as ESPN's information says he has minimal height for the defensive corner position at the major level of competition in college.

Nice list. Thanks for doing the research.

I'm thinking that Brewster is going to pull one out of his hat with one of the remaining scholarships. At least that's what I am hoping.

I'm sure you're right but it would be nice if they were wrong and rivals got his height correct. I'd like to have a big, brusing, shut down corner.

Pretty sure that i saw Antonio Ford committed to Wake Forest. He is teammates with Willis. I was hoping we would have landed him

No one has reported it yet. Rivals, Scout and ESPN all have him as undeclared. It does seem to be down to us and Wake though.

Ash is the DT from Pahokee that mentioned he would like to play with Willis. Ford going to Wake Forest doesn't surprise me some of his Pahokee teammates have also committed there

Just thought I would post this about Richard Ash, quoted from a recruiting forum from a Tennesse fan which may give us some insight on why he has fallen into our laps:

Whether the Gators have soured on him is unknown to Ash, who said Sunday he's tried to call the coaching staff in recent days without any success.

"I've been hearing things that Florida doesn't want me after I tested at camp because of my 40 and my vertical," Ash said.

"I did good in the one-on-ones but I guess the 40 and vertical lowered me on Florida's scale. … They didn't like me as much after camp. That's what I've been hearing."

Ash, a 6-foot-4, 263-pound recruit who's rated No. 18 at defensive tackle by Rivals.com, said he's not sure if the rumors are even true.

If the Gators are still interested, the Pahokee standout said they're still one of his favorite teams. But because he had been hearing negative things, Florida is no longer No. 1.

"It moved them out of my top now," Ash said.

USC, LSU and WVU are left. Teams are dropping like flies on this kid and I have no clue why.

Tennessee and Florida have dropped off. Once USC "forgets" to send his official offer it'll be down to LSU and WVU. Don't be surprised to see both pull off him either. I know he's had some bad camps but my goodness at his fall from grace. --- End quote

And ironically....it happened and he now has South Florida, USC and Minnesota in his final. Very interesting tidbits

We'd take you Richard! Come on up!!!

This is code for You hate Brewster and the Gophers

It was not his first pass and he is every bit as good as Utecht and Spaeth, so I am pretty sure he will be alright.

What color is the sky in fantasy land? I will look forward to seeing him play every Sunday in a few years then.
