Any Chance Niko can get Fleck to loan him Koi Perich?

I'm sure there are better basketball players on the Football roster.

Wasn't Anthony Smith a high level HS player?

I'm willing to bet Niko has halfheartedly asked around with other coaches at the school.

Anthony Smith had several D1 hoop offers.

Who was the Harvard transfer added to the Gopher roster for some front court help about 20 years ago? I think he was about 6'6" and very strong white kid. I recall them beating Indiana at home in a similar upset as last night

There we go!
In this crazy world of no rules basketball, where might Niko get a guy who can help, even if it's just mainly in practice? Any just ended football kids who can bang it up? Any G league disappointment? Any Euro player who could get a run and some cash? What's possible?

Are you thinking of Zach Puchtel?
I remember when he joined that team it was sort of a joke...practice type player.
He ended up playing some meaningful minutes....

If it was next year, Lamont Hamilton just signed with PJ.....tremendous basketball player. Thought he was going to play D1 hoops (has some offers). He would seriously help as a backup PG.

That is where my head went.

Could the Gophers (or any other team) go and sign a G League player over the Holidays? Enroll for 2nd semester and be eligble?

Ai tells me here are the current G League players who have not played college.

Who was the short WR that played basketball as well. Maybe in the Brewster or Kill days? I think he transferred to Illinois St eventually?

No, really!?
For the clueless here, this thread is about thinking outside the box when there aren't enough healthy players on the team to even practice well.
I am very well aware that having a player from another sport join the basketball team is not realistic. I am also aware that it has happened in the past.
What I hope others might do is share how we might add a player or two for this season since we are so short handed.
What I read here is a bunch of negative Nancy's.
Two solutions:
1. Enroll someone new after Christmas...somebody from Europe who is suddenly available, eligible and very talented. OR, somebody who maybe was recovering from injury and wasn't healthy this fall and therefore didn't have offers they liked but is anxious to play now...and talented.
2. Send a campus alert for enrolled interested students to try out...see if unciver a diamond in the rough.
The football additions is an idea with lots of pitfalls with minimal upside.

So why did you title the thread, “Any Chance Niko can get Fleck to loan him Koi Perich?” and not something like, “What outside the box options do you think could be realistic to bolster the Gopher MBB roster in-season?” Seems like you had a pretty specific idea in mind.

Just because it happened in the past doesn’t mean it happens now. This isn’t the good old days where Buck Johnson from Beaver Creek comes to the University and walks out of Econ 101 to star for the football, basketball, and baseball teams. I’m fine being called a negative Nancy, though I’m just being realistic.

Koi was the first person I thought of. He was fantastic ballplayer for Esko and a great athlete. I suppose I was hoping for more ideas. Clearly it was silly of me to think folks at the Gopherhole would take it as a positive. It's impressive to see how many went pure negative on this idea. Well done. I see that USAF is thrilled he has followers.
