Perich is an amazing athlete and Koi went toe to toe with Asuma in high school. I could see Koi being a great addition to the team, at minimum as a practice player. With Willis being out this team could use a guy like Perich to suit up and give us some assistance. Come on PJ, do Niko a solid and grant Koi the chance to suit up on the hardcourt.

Perich was a great small school HS basketball player.
But to think he could walk on midseason and add significantly to a B1G program just illustrates an amazing lack of basketball acumen.

Might be the worst idea I’ve read here in a long time, and that’s saying something.

The more I'm on this board the more I'm convinced that frustration drops the average basketball fans relatively low basketball IQ ( as compared to most college coaches) another 50% or so.

So...how many practice players do we have in order to help this team? How close are we to being under ten guys with all the injuries we have.
No sane person thinks we are going to win more than a couple games this year, but here I get to read how an excellent athlete, who could have played D1 basketball, can't possibly be of any help. Perhaps someone should have told Dave Winfield he couldn't possibly help the basketball team because he wasn't capable of doing so.
What I get here is a bunch of wanna be's, who can't think outside the box, telling me it can't be done.

So, USAF and his buddies, tell us your great idea for helping this team this season. Go ahead, give us your brilliant strategy instead of spending all your time whining about how bad the program is. I dare you to actually find guys who might help the team this year.

Go!

1. I don't think Perich "could have played D1 basketball."

2. Perich isnt going to up the "couple games" you yourself expect the Gophers to win.

Koi would not crack the starting 5 at Gustavus I don’t think he’s going to be playable against B10 teams.

Waiting for your solution.
Read my op. Do I say he would start? Do I say he could help in practice?
Share your out of the box solution.

I don't think it's a horrible idea from a basketball standpoint - desperate times and all that. If he can play at this level, it's probably as a scout teamer and end of the rotation 10-minute guy. That's not nothing, but it won't meaningfully change the team's fortunes at this point.

1. Hire a coach able to turn around a failing program.

2. Failing that, recruit better, Niko.

Adding Perich is an idea only a desperate fan boy who's starry eyed dream is crashing and burning would come up with.

As for now, "enjoy the season." You got your guy.

Get better players maybe? The solution is definitely not taking your football teams star safety and having him risk injury playing basketball with the basketball team.

How are you going to get better players right now? I am open to suggestions.
Basketball is far less dangerous than football.

He’s a star safety on the football team. He’s not a basketball player. How would he honestly help the team? There are probably dozens of people on campus better at basketball than him.

Did you ever see him play basketball in high school. It's likely he would have the highest vertical jump on the team. He nearly singlehandedly took Esko to State in basketball. He is a great athlete. He could help in practice for sure.
There isn't another person on campus better than Koi Perich, in basketball, who isn't on the basketball team. He'd be better than any of our walk ons.
