Anthony Tucker Update

If he's talking about the way he left UC-Davis, it's a gigantic stretch to call it a potential character issue.

What was the reason? Was it something other than wanting to eventually latch on at a bigger school and/or better conference?

I'm sorry I confused Hopkins for Tonka. Whatever. He started at Eastview and left after his freshman year.

I get drunk all the time. I pass out and piss myself, but guess what I'M A GROWN ADULT AND I CAN DO WHATEVER I WANT. Fair or not, there isn't a spotlight on me and my behavior. Thank goodness!!!

My name makes me less classy? You're so close minded, Uffda.

GOOD LUCK AT HAMLINE ANTHONY. VERY SHORTSIGHTED OF YOU TO MISS OUT ON AN OPPORTUNITY LIKE THE U JUST BECAUSE YOU HAVE TO TAKE ONE YEAR OFF. PLAYING CONCORDIA IN FRONT OF 45 PEOPLE > PLAYING IN FRONT OF TENS OF THOUSANDS IN THE BIG TEN.

GOOD CALL.

Tucker never went to high school at Eastview or Hopkins. I'm not sure who you're thinking of. He played all 4 high school years at Minnetonka and was named all conference all 4 years.

Eight players said they wanted the coach fired, Welch was one of 4 who left when he wasn't. For what it's worth, Gary Stewart "stepped down" from his head coaching position this year after recieving pressure from the fan base and most likely the university.

Attempted Mutiny

Thanks. I hadn't heard that. It is an interesting nugget of info, for sure, especially after reading the story.

Interesting yes, but I don't think it puts him in the same ballpark for potential off court issues as it does Anthony Tucker. If you read the comments below the article, that was the general consensus I found while reading about the situation on UC Davis message boards.

Related to the alledged mutiny, there is a letter (didn't open that link, maybe it includes it) signed by the players and a Facebook 'update' alledgedly made by the Gopher guard to tell the public about his departure - complete with referring to himself in the third person.

There was the suspension in December of the season he was playing at UC-Davis as well.

BTW - as a follow up to Gary finally departing, Jim Les is the new head coach (recently fired from Bradley).

. In Stewart's six years prior to the start of the 2009-2010 season, 18 different players have quit or left the team due to undisclosed reasons.

Tubby has some catching up to do. He can't even win the players quitting battle. Fire him unless he gets a few more in the next two years.

Second chances?

I'm all about giving a kid a 2nd chance....HOWEVER, in Mr. Tucker's case (by my count) this would be either a 4th or 5th chance.:rolleyes::eek:

He was supposed to go to Eastview and he bailed before his freshman year. Notice the city which Rivals has him from...

He'd be smart to walk on at the U or stay at Winona St and not waste his time at Hamline. WHY WOULD YOU EVER WANT TO GO HAMLINE???? EVER???

He is not going to Hamline. We'll just have to wait for the official release. These pessimistic GopherHolers are just crabs in the bucket.

What's this whole UC-Davis thing?

Go back a page and read the stuff by Gopher Warrior. Apparently there were a lot of issues between coach and players, and Julian was one of the players unhappy with the coach

Tubby was on with Sid and Dave Sunday morning and he confirmed that Tucker will not be playing for the Gophers.

HopkinsGopher13--You have explaining to do

Tubby says Tucker is not coming. Care to comment on how you got the bad information? You sounded very confident.

Of course he won't be playing, transfer rules make it so that he cannot.

Could still be ON the team though ;)

He was very specific that the future Gopher teams will be very deep at the guard positions and there is no room on the roster for Tucker.

No doubt, and last year at this time we had Nolen, Joseph, and Cobbs manning the PG position. Who needs more depth?

You are either not as well connected as you think you are . . . or you aren't a good listener.

Let's not forget Tucker quit one season at Tonka before the debacle at Iowa before the debacle at Winona. Flat out quit during a game and John Hedstrom later took him back. Anthony can play a little, but this is very good news that he is not coming, if he ever was. He can play a little, but this would have been the classic case of a Minnesota kid transferring back home that would not work out, imo. I hope he beats the alcohol thing.

Tucker has been spotted playing with the Pipers in the jefferson summer college league, but don't worry Hopkinsgopher, Hamline has averaged 5 transfers a year, so all gopher walk-on possibilities remain!

Good get for Hamline, If he can sober up from sept to march theyll finish top 3 of the miac.

Last year hamline finished 3rd last year but will be losing their all-american MIAC player of the year center. Hopefully Tucker can pick up the slack...

Good. Too much depth can actually lead to player discontent because of lack of playing time and the resulting perceived lack of respect from the coach to the players. If we recruited two strong guards, plus a JuCo, and are bringing back a couple, then Tucker's presence would likely only stir up discontent at this point. That's the last thing we need, considering the Joseph/Iverson/White/Mbakwe/Cobb issues of the past two years.

That's a great get. He is as talented as any Division III player out there. Remember, he was an all conference type player in DII .
