One of my uncles is a U of M School of Dentistry alum. Several times I heard him tell the story of playing a pick-up volleyball game at one of the campus gyms. Aaron Brown and some football players were there and joined in. Uncle Chuck said that Aaron was a very nice guy and "took it easy" on the soon to be dentists. Thanks for pointing that out Eastside, here's some images of Aaron Brown, 1964 First Team All Big Ten, 1964 All American, 1965 First Team All Big Ten, 1965 All American

Spaeth was so good. Also, I totally forgot we wore throwbacks in that era.Matt Spaeth, 2005 First Team All Big Ten, 2006 First Team All Big Ten, 2006, All American, 2006 John Mackey Award winner, 2006 Ozzie Newsome Award Winner
Probably because you tried to forget that game. Is was an ugly 10-9 win over NDSU that didn't feel good. I also thought those jerseys looked like high school JV team jerseys. I hated them lol. The throwbacks now look solid.Spaeth was so good. Also, I totally forgot we wore throwbacks in that era.
Yeah, those jerseys kinda looked like practice jerseys. Terrible.Probably because you tried to forget that game. Is was an ugly 10-9 win over NDSU that didn't feel good. I also thought those jerseys looked like high school JV team jerseys. I hated them lol. The throwbacks now look solid.
"The corderback throws deep down field, caught by the receiver for a 3 yard gain."Is that the game where Mike Sherrils (sp) blocked the field goal attempt at the end to save the game on the final play? I'm listening to the game on the radio and Dave Lee's description of what has happened is so unclear that I'm lost. Finally the other Dave steps in and says, "the game is over and the Gophers have won." Man, I am happy that I do not have to listen to Dave Lee anymore.
Would have been better in Aggievision...# 88, 1986 First Team All Big Ten Linebacker Bruce Holmes turns down offers from his home state from Michigan and Michigan State to become an outstanding Golden Gopher! Some nice photos and interview on the attached video!
Nice job with the photographs Icebox! Appreciate you! Go Golden Gophers!85 Days Away!

I've written this before but I bumped into Curt Wilson on the UNLV campus about 20 years ago. We chatted for a minute, but it was clear that the loved Bob Stein and Stein's mom. Wilson said that Stein's mother put in all kinds of effort to make the African-American players feel at home and supported them. I've read stories where Stein described how players quickly figured out that the relationship that they had with Warmath differed from being a recruited athlete to a player on the roster. I think that is, or was, pretty common in those days, maybe still is in some places. Go Gophers!84 Days Out

Thank you for posting. On the way to winning the 1962 state basketball tournament, St. Louis Park played Danube and Bob Bruggers in the semi-finals. Danube was the sentimental favorite of the field and the Williams Arena crowd—the Edgerton of the ‘62 tourney. Bruggers scores 36 points but uncharacteristically misses a number of free throws. The Orioles win a close game. The drama and romance of the one class tournament…
