Andre Hollins is a Gopher!

Are we done recruiting for 2011?

Edit: I know they haven't signed with us, so technically we are not done, but I'm assuming we will only sign two players since we only have 2 seniors. Unless, of course, someone transfers.

Back from the football game and I need some positive news. Great to see the title of this thread!

football?? Another non-revenue minor sport. Basketball rules!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Welcome aboard both Mr. Hollins's. Go Gophers!

Good links, Bleed. Thanks. Basketball rules and Go Gophers!!!!!!!!!!!

Great to have him on the team. Turned out to be a nice two-person class

We can always use smart and athletic players who can shoot. Not to mention he seems to be a great kid

I'm not sure which kid will end up being the best player between Hollins, Oglesby and Jesperson but I believe Andre is the biggest need in terms of adding a PG to this class. Very excited to have him!!!

Between Austin and Andre I love what Tubby is doing; adding smart, athletic, sharp-shooters to the team.

http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/recruiting/player/_/id/56385/andre-hollins ESPN Grade: 91

Strengths:
Hollins takes an old-school approach to the game that a coach would love. He is a blue-collar guy at the SG position who laces them up tight every time he steps between the lines. He has good range on his jump shot out to 24', but his game is attacking the rim off the dribble. When he sees an opening he attacks like he is shot out of cannon. Defensively, he really sets down in his stance and moves his feet well.

Weaknesses:
He's a straight line driver who really has not shown a lot of an in-between game to this point. However, he does know how to get to the free throw line by attacking the lane. A good athlete but not as explosive as he could and will be.

Bottom Line:
Andre has a real toughness to him that carries over in the way he gets on the floor after loose balls. He has worked to improve his game with each season and he knows which aspects he need to continue his upward incline. With his basketball intelligence and style of play I think he is a no-brainer for MM/HM- schools.

I have been doing a little research on Mr. Hollins I knew he was a good player, but this kid is VERY GOOD. One must give it up to Tubby and staff, they really did'nt get started on this kid untill early August

This is great news! He seems like a great kid that will fit in well with the team. Way to go Tubby. Welcome Andre.

"I think they got a steal," Patino said about the Gophers. "They came in at the last minute. I think they got a great talent. He's going to be great on the court, but he also has a swing of charisma. He's going to take the town by storm, and people are going to fall in love with this kid."

Smith was hoping to land a player in the 2011 recruiting class to replace senior point guard Al Nolen next season. Patino said Hollins would be able to be a floor leader as a freshman in the Big Ten.

Full Marcus story

Good deal, glad to have a guy that can play pg next season.

Chris Monter spoke with Hollins' HS coach and confirmed that Hollins is a Gopher!

Chris has said that of the hundreds and hundreds of kids he has interviewed over the years, the newest Gopher has been the nicest and most articulate of them all.

This is a great addition to the program both on and off the court.

I'm glad to hear that he's articulate, but can he shoot? Dribble? Handle the Big Ten? He's a four-star guy, right?

"He's got NBA athleticism and he's very strong and can shoot," Patino said. "But he's got all the tools to be a point guard. He's got the complete package. Once he starts playing Big Ten basketball, everybody's going to start wondering where he was and will be amazed at what they can do with this kid."

Welcome Andre!! I can't wait to watch this team for the next few seasons!

Andre seems to be in roughly the same place as Austin was with the recruiting services... Not a 4-star, but a strong 3, and the star system is overrated anyway. With kids in that range, the key is how hard they work and how much they improve, and it sounds like both Andre and Austin are kids who will work their tails off and both have the physical attributes to be fantastic players once their skills develop.

Although they won't even be able to put A. Hollins on the back of the shirt, since both their names start with A... An Hollins and Au Hollins? heh, get ready for the announcers to mix them up :)

Hollins.

This is great news! Here's hoping the transition to PG goes smoothly. Based on all the reviews about his work ethic and intelligence I suspect it will.

I can hear it now on a fast break..."Hollins outlet to Hollins, Hollins back to Hollins back to Hollins for the layup and the foul. Assist to Hollins and Hollins going to the line for a possible 3 point play. That Hollins is all over the floor."

So what will they do for the back of their uniforms? Maybe first names only? I guess only time will tell...

My guess is that they are not done recruiting and with such a big freshman class there will be some attrition that needs to covered. I'll throw a little specualation that they go for a serviceable juco point guard (especially if Ahnimassi(?)-sorry for butchering the name-does not work out) to provide insurance and back up for Mr. Andre Hollins, who appears to have the inside track on the job when he arrives.

I don't think they'll sign another guard this class. Probably a PF if anything.

I think we need to go after the best player available. We have Rodney and Mbakwe that could make the jump to the NBA. If Rodney leaves early I would expect Austin Hollins starting in the 3 spot next season and we add Oto to play some SF as well. Ralph, Colt, Ellison and Mo to cover the 4 & 5 spots down low.

I don't mind adding a power forward in anticipation that Mbakwe goes to the pros, I just think we could still add either.

they should go for nino jackson, 4 star PF, hollins teammate at white station 2011 i think, doesnt look like he had any big offers.

Good for the Gophers.

You can't have too many players who are really smart and know how to play.
