Andre Hollins: “I am not leaving."

In my opinion Tubby should have been going after a JUCO PG instead of a PF. Maybe the new coach will agree.

I agree completely. The main thing this team needs is a true PG to play alongside Dre and Austin. I think that was the goal with Welch, but Welch struggled.

That's the problem - still one starting guard short, whether it's the 1 or the 2. I wonder if the new coach sees that and considers a JC transfer. (That's how Oto might end up being the odd man out - in favor of a more vital need.)
Technically we have 2 scholarships open for next year but you gotta figure at least 1 will be banked for the 2014 class but I could see us using it on a JUCO PG if a good enough one is available. Another thing to think about is maybe we could add a graduate transfer that would be eligible to play right away next year at the PF or PG spots like was the case for Lockett and Oriahaki this season. IF we were able to add a player like that we would still have the scholarship open for the 2014 class as well since whoever the player is would be a senior.

I wasn't extremely worried about him leaving for some odd reason, but it is a relief to hear him say it out loud. I think whatever coach we get is gonna love to have him for the next two seasons, cause he's just a great kid to have representing your program.

+201

I like his brother Austin a lot too!

;)

WTF are you saying?

I'm saying Andre is better than he played this year. While Tubby didnt hurt his development, it wasnt pushed to the level of his potential. Tubby didnt make Andre the player he is today. Its possible a new coach will be able to better help Andre reach his potential (i.e. better offensive system that better utilizes the rest of the team in turn freeing him up, stress better game management and ball control skills). Tubby is a good coach but Andre and others on the team did not reach their full potential this year.

Does it really matter if a player that wasn't good enough to make the roster this year is around next season?

Based on his exhibition play alone, I really don't think you can say that kid wasn't talented enough to "make the roster" this year. Clearly it was a matter of whether it was worthwhile to burn a redshirt so he can play 5 minutes a game like Wally. He just wasn't as adamant about doing so, so he fell back and took the redshirt. After that, it didn't matter how much he showed in practice, he wasn't gonna play.

Yes because he's eligible for 4 years and has already been in prep school and college for a year. He's most likely better than anyone we can still bring in for 2014. We have a gaping hole left behind at the 4 with Trev, Rod, and Ingram out. Which, oh by the way, is WHY he redshirted. Not because he just didn't make the roster. Come on man!

I certainly agree that we need to recruit a point guard as Mav is not the answer. Love to see Andre be able to play some as a 2 guard to open up his offensive options. But in his best interest, he needs to learn to take care of the ball and play PG if he's going to play in the NBA. He's not big enough to guard any 2 guards in the pros.

Based on his lackluster high school career and his struggle to see play and produce at Hargrave, I think you probably could say that.

Yeah not good enough to take significant minutes from Trevor, Rodney, and Ingram this past year. Why not redshirt him and let him get stronger. How many games did you go to at Hargrave to call his production there lackluster? Reports last year from those around the Hargrave program spoke differently of his contributions.

Only if you are blind.

Yep. I've watched him play numerous times. Granted, they were in scrimmages and not competitive games, and his weaknesses (mainly, weakness and lack of basketball savvy) were readily apparent, but that shooting stroke was smooth, and his athleticism allowed him to be useful on D, and exciting on O.

Has the wingspan of a 7 footer and heaven forbid his coach last year said he was a good free throw shooter. The cupboard isn't bare.

None, but I read Hargrave's game recaps. If a player reaches double figures in a statistical category, his contribution is noted. Buggs was almost never mentioned. Someone over at GI got into contact with someone over Hargrave -- I think it was the play-by-play guy or PR announcer -- and inquired as to why Buggs' name wasn't appearing in the recaps. Guy replied that Buggs was a deep bench player who didn't play a whole lot.

Of course, the reason he was at Hargrave in the first place is because he wasn't recruited out of high school. He only averaged 11.4 points his senior season.

About the same as EE. Look who recruited him after he left high school. We're not talking a one and done kid here. We're looking at a solid contributor who will probably be in the rotation on day one.
