And then we got scouted....

Would the big three want to come knowing the coach is at least on the warm seat if not the hot seat?

I am hoping that these players are more in favor of challenges in life than you. Greatness is doing what others couldn't. Tyus and that group wouldn't fail here and if they would- they'd fail somewhere else just the same.

what are the lotto numbers on wed? you obviously can see into the future.

i gues winning a national title at duke or kentucky isnt considered greatness?

What Coach K and that original group did was greatness. What has followed since was continued excellence and anyone part of it can be proud for continuing that tradition. But the original guys those are the guys you remember for really doing something great. I realize that's a fine distinction and you make a point. I don't happen to think the current Calipari era is greatness BTW.

Those three wouldn't exactly require lotto luck to achieve here. I think my call there was more a a statistical probablity play. I think the odds are high that they would do very well.

If it were that easy don't you think it would have happened in like the last 50 yrs? We aren't a location kids dream about playing for, we just because you get some good scouts doesn't mean kids are going to come to Minnesota over schools like mich st or wisky. They have amenities we can't offer. We have players saying they work out at lifetime because they can't get gym time. Coach k would struggle at Minnesota if he came in next year. I don't understand why so many think its an easy fix, if it was easy it wouldn't need to be fixed.

+1

like kentuckys great recruiting class this year?

Do you have to win your first year? They sure didn't at Duke when K arrived. But they ended up winning big. In this same way the Burton, Newbern, Coffey, Schick group might be my most respected group at the U- they started from nothing and finished elite 8. Awesome.

My favorite group bar none.

Nicely done beeg.

When do you win? It has to be in year 2 or 3 right? If tyus and Vaughn are as good as projected? Can they be one and done? I'm not saying they will fail but I'm not arrogant enough to claim that they are a lock at greatness, things don't always work out.

My favorite group bar none

My favorite group starts with Bobby Jackson et al (cheating aside),

Followed by Michael Thompson, Ray Williams, Flip Saunders, Kevin McHale et al(selling season tickets aside),

Then Ron Behagen Clyde Turner, Jim Brewer, Keith Young and Dave Winfield (Brawl aside).

Then I would throw in Burton and his guys. Rumor has it they didn't cheat, brawl or sell tickets...but thats just a rumor.

I really liked the A-Rob, Lawson, and Hagen team. Nothing was expected of them, and they overcame a lot to make the run to the tourney.

Bobby J was a stud. Period. Willie B was as well, imo. Perhaps not an assassin like Bobby, but close.

Wille, Mel, Shik, Coffey was just a great group to watch and pull for.

DAMN GA TECH!!!!

Yes, they did. A rob turned into a pretty good guard.

Soon you will say "we have more depth"

Sounds like you don't know much about Kentucky's roster. Anyone who expected them to be a Final Four contender this year was crazy. Their two best returning players were Kyle Wiltjer (a good offensive player, but terrible on defense) and Jarrod Polson. Wiltjer averaged 5 points last year and is averaging 11.8 and 4.6 this year. Solid offensively, but Calipari has threatened to bench him because his defense is so bad. Polson is a former walk-on who averaged 0.1 points last year and 2.7 points this year. I would take Andre and the rest of our returning players over those two any day of the week. I think any objective-minded person would.

Says the poster trying to convince everyone that despite extreme talent, the Big three would likely fail at Minnesota. Tyus, Reid, and Rashad would make it to the NBA playing for the Gophers if they live up to their potential. This isn't the Horizon league. This is the Big Ten, and up until recent sputters, the Gophers were pasted all over the ESPN Mens BBall page on a weekly basis.

Musselman got nailed for over 100 NCAA violations, so both he and Clem were cheaters.

That leaves only Dutch.

And how often did Dutch do it? Wasn't he still partially the beneficiary of the black athletes that weren't wanted down south? Or was he a few years past that? I know Musselman benefitted from bringing in players that other Big Ten coaches didn't want, and they happened to be black from what I remember?

Musselman accomplished one major thing while he was at Minnesota, he made it EXTREMELY COOL to play for the Gophers. So Dutch basically benefitted from what Musselman did during his time here. High School bb players from Minnesota grew up watching Musselman's Gophers and wanted nothing more than to become Gophers.

Then when Dutch's boys got falsely accused of raping a woman, well, that was not the kind of thing that made a very good impression on young men growing up in Minnesota, or their parents. Also, Dutch did not continue with all the razzle dazzle stuff that Musselman did, that did so much to make the Gophers an attractive entity. So even though he won a Big Ten title with the Gophers, his teams didn't make near as positive of an impact on the young Mn bb players that watched them. So have a scandal, lose all the falsely accused players, lose the coach, have some REALLY down years and then bring in a coach not much better than Tubby is who then resorts to cheating, and well, now we are arguing about how truly bad our history is, just really bad, or REALLY REALLY bad?!

Making the Gophers cool is what a coach needs to do here. That's a huge part of recruiting. Saw a tweet from a football signee that whenever he says he's going to be a gopher people laugh. That it isn't ferocious enough. It is just the perception people have of the U. Gotta make it cool, improve public perception, a place athletes want to be. Practice facility helps that, but marketing is a huge piece.

Not trying to convince anyone of anything other than we have no clue what would happen. All of you related to ms Cleo are a step up on guys like me that can't read the future

All I was trying to say was 1) we don't know that If these 3 commit we would dominate 2) if they happened to fail the negative would be massive much worse than anyone could ever imagine

And all I was trying to say was if the Big 3 commited to Minnesota, it would be a very different situation than Kentucky's team this year. The fact that Kentucky is struggling is completely irrelevant.

No we don't. That includes you, who seem to think that these players career would somehow magically end if they were to play for the Gophers. I think you specifically stated that if they want to play for the NBA, then Minnesota would be a bad choice. Preposterous statement.

Never once said that, u can interpret things anyway you like, if you read the entire convo I was simply saying there is no guarantee and the chance of failure is a huge obstacle that I would understand if they chose somewhere else. If they co e to the U I have no clue how they will do? They could be the greatest trio in the history of college hoops or they could be a massive failure. We don't know...others seem to know that they will be great, history shows it doesn't always work out
