Amisha Ramlall 2027

Anyone think she will be a top 100 player? Currently ESPN only lists the top 25 for 2027

She has two younger sisters that are really good players too. Let’s hope they follow in her footsteps.
I think one is her age. Ranked 32 in the class of 27. The other is ranked 4th in the class of 28.

While it is nice to keep the top talent at home, we have to define where this talent fits in on the national scene, and need to also focus on players from other areas of the country. We need to compare the players not just to Minnesota talent, but to their whole class. If you look at the teams above us, the teams that are consistently getting ranked, they have players from all over. They don’t just recruit locally, they recruit the best. I know we need to start somewhere, but if we want to get there, we need to use a broader scope in recruiting

Arisha Ramlall is 5'7" and a 10th grader, Amisha Ramlall is 5'11" and a 10th grader Ansha Ramlall is 5'9"-5'10" 9th grader.

Coach Plitzuweit and the staff have offered and recruited top recruits from around the nation. They haven't pulled in many outside of the Midwest thus far but recently signed Zoey Bershers, a versatile big who can shoot from the outside, out of Arkansas. In our world of NIL, programs like the U may be increasingly reliant on local recruits who are willing to give a hometown discount. More NIL may be available once Coach P has had an opportunity to rebuild fan interest.

Well well said. It's also only year two under Coach P taking over a program that has been terrible for a long time. The recruits will come as they keep winning and building. We have the right coach. What she is doing locally is a great start.

Minnesota can win with local talent. I will never not believe that. Coach Borton was winning more when she had local talent. She even referenced in her book about how when she changed her recruiting it didn’t make things better. SDSU wins with locals….

I think you missed part of my point. I fully believe in Coach P, in her coaching, her recruiting, and the way she can build a team. What she and her staff did with my daughter was beyond our wildest dreams. But I also think that we need to bring in a little bit of diverse talent, so players can learn from each other and push each other’s boundaries. It’s the same way when college coaches say they want players who have had more than one coach in their ear. These young ladies increase their skills from playing with players who have different abilities, as well as from having to earn their court time from each other. This staff has the skills to use “friendly” competition to build team chemistry, on and off the court.

If we could keep players like Paige, Tessa Johnson, Greenway, McGill etc we could win national championships with Minnesota players. Having watched my daughter play for North Tartan it was my hope we could get some of these players to Minnesota one day which is now coming to fruition. I’m not saying we don’t look from coast to coast but we have the talent here to make it happen

I agree. To be a top team in the Big Ten and ranked highly, Minnesota needs to recruit top players from beyond Minnesota and Wisconsin. We have 12 Minnesotans and 2 Wisconsinites. The top teams in the country have recruits from wide geographic areas. We suffer from the Lake Wobegon syndrome: "All our children are above average." When it comes to basketball, other parts of the country produce players that are WAY above average and they do it every year--not every few years or more. If you are considering hockey, our kids are Way above average and we produce many of them. If Gopher basketball is going to move up, they need to recruit an impact player(s). Yes, Minnesota periodically produces impact players. But, we can't expect to land them all because some kids like to go to other places and experience different things. Minnesota needs to win, develop a good reputation, and play the NIL game to become attractive to top players.

I think Hoopsmom was speaking to posters on gopherhole, not the coaches. This experienced coaching staff already knows this.

I am merely reminding posters that the staff IS recruiting top players nationally that they feel will fit the needs of the program. At this point, they are simply not landing the creme of the crop. But it is not for lack of trying.

The top programs are throwing a lot of NIL around this year without any sideboards. It is hard to compete with that in addition to the already built in challenge of recruiting to a program in the upper Midwest that hasn't seen recent success.

That run of a few excellent years under Borton are distant memories. Coach P, the staff, and players are going to have to build the program up enough to garner serious attention from top 100 players from outside of the region. This will likely require time, patience, and/or the sudden emergence of a couple of players who have the 'it' factor.

I see some players on the current roster and in the pipeline of signed or committed players who have a chance to be difference makers. Let's hope the stars align and these pieces mesh into the core of a team that can play with the skill and savvy necessary to play above their individual rankings. Once that occurs, the staff can begin filling in holes and building for even greater success year after year.

Good reminder about the national recruiting the Gophers have been doing, which included getting visits from both Cearah Parchment (ESPN # 40) and Kaelyn Carroll, who moved up to ESPN # 15, but was much lower when the Gophers started recruiting her.

I'm curious if you have a source for "The top programs are throwing a lot of NIL around this year without any sideboards." While South Carolina's $25,000 per player NIL has been pretty publicly documented, it seems like the rest of WBB NIL chatter is rank speculation. Any details about which WBB programs have robust NIL, and what they are paying? Message board gossip says LSU pays a lot, but don't know what that means.
