Where were the vets? There is one more game left in the regular season after tonight, but this game was an ode to the future. One senior, Elliott Eliason, hasn’t gotten in the game at all in the last two contests. Another senior, Andre Hollins, managed just five points on 2-for-9 shooting. DeAndre Mathieu, who has lost his starting spot to freshman Nate Mason, played second fiddle at his position. And Mo Walker looked incapable of even halting a surging Frank Kaminsky at times. Having four seniors could probably be considered the advantage in a game like this – a border rival and ranked team stepping onto Minnesota’s home court in an opportunity that could change the feel surrounding the program. But the bright spots for the Gophers on Thursday? Both freshmen, with Mason leading the way.

Richard must have learned this from his dad. This was a trick to show how this season was lost. He is telling the fans that all those seniors caused this. What happened to Mo's 60 pounds of fat? I thought he became the PF once he lost those pounds. I don't know what he is going to do next year. Blaming the players to be too young????

NU has the same record as the Gophers with far less talented team. I don't see their coach playing these types of games do you?

The-Real-Truth, your pattern continues. Gophers win at Michigan State and we don't have a single post from you. We lose a game and you start chiming in. You've been doing this same pattern since Tubby left.

How is playing the best players(Mason) or playing the players who are having a great game(Konate) "playing... games"?

The players are still playing hard for Richard. In a tough year where breaks haven't gone your way that is a sign of a good coach or at least a coach who is still respected by the players.

Very true. Maybe because Izzo just gave that game to the Gophers????

It'll be interesting to see whether Elliott starts on senior day.

I'm as surprised as anyone that he hasn't played AT ALL lately. He needed to lose the starting job and have his minutes reduced because of the quality of his play, but to completely shut him down! It's just like Tubby did with Ralph Sampson late in 2012. His attitude must be even worse behind the scenes than it looks in public. If Eliason doesn't play on senior day, then you have to assume the coach has come to downright hate him.

I'd expect Elliot to play on senior night. I just expect that Pitino has seen Konate improve and wants to give his future some time on the floor so we'll be better next year. Some realism from the coach was probably taken into account in terms of playing time for our back up center position.

Yawn. Amelia isn't adding much to the field of understanding here.

I just thought last night that Konate showed he had the best chance of slowing down Kaminsky. To me, it looked like Pitino was faced with the choice of getting more offense from Mo or better defense from Konate. It was a lose/lose proposition.

Even if he did "give the game to the Gophers," we still had to accept, which we did by outplaying a more talented team. Has the season been below our expectations? Yes, but that was a good win, regardless how you want to paint it.

No, I don't see their coach doing that either. However, I don't know whether I agree that NW is a far less talented team. They are much younger and a bit less athletic. On the other hand, I don't think they have anyone in their rotation less athletic than Joey King and if I could pick either one I might choose Alex Olah over Mo.

Well, considering that Mo had 7 points in 23 minutes and Bakary got 7 points in 17 minutes, I don't think he got more offense from Walker either. Bakary's play over the last couple of games has been pretty encouraging.

I'm pretty sure Ralph was injured at the end of that season.

What leads you to think NW has any less talent. Look at their player star rankings. Better than us.

He was slightly dinged but could have played. Coach wanted to build for the next year.

IIRC, he chose not to play through his injury and 'prepare for the draft' instead.

I remember there being speculation that it was his call, but was that ever verified?
