Amelia/Star Tribune article about Teague

I wonder if this might be part of the reason she wrote that title IX article about the athletic department. That is too bad to hear.

I'm not sure that headline is the most fair to Amelia. It's a pretty powerful article and I don't think she did it for anything less than honorable reasons. I have a bad feeling this is whole things is far from over. I'm not sure Kaler survives it.

The acronym (VCU) for Virginia Commonwealth was perfectly suited for Norwood.

Wow! Agree that Kaler is on thin ice given the research death controversy.

I feel terrible for her that she had to go through something like that. That kind of thing in the workplace is awful and can have such a negative affect on your workplace performance and your overall well-being. Maybe this can start to explain a portion of how she is an absolute stinker of a beat writer.

Horrible situation and reveals not just the stupidity of Norwood but the arrogance as well. Harassing a reporter is just asking to have his grave dug. How long did he think that would remain under wraps? Someone who not only has access to the media but is the media is not going to keep it quiet for ever. Her explanation of the delay in coming forward is completely reasonable to me, though. The multiple edged sword of protecting yourself personally, being part of the story, and wanting to preserve the beginnings of a career put her in an absolutely no win situation. The only thing I can add is that if he was brazen enough to harass someone who could hurt him like that, how many other less influential women did he harass? If nothing else, Amelia's story demonstrates his behavior was not an isolated drunken incident or two. It's a pattern of behavior. Look for more allegations to come, in my opinion. Hard to blame Kaler if the victims didn't come forward, though.

You are correct in your assessment I would think. If he went after a reporter like this, likely countless others who were subjected to it. Her explanation is reasonable. She liked her job and if she had pushed the paper to pursue it, it's likely she would have had to move off the beat or have restricted access.

At least the university moved quickly on Teague once a couple of women came forward recently. What a creep.

Rachel Blount went through the same thing with Norm Green. She was in the same situation (young writer's first beat).

I'm unaware of what you're referencing. Can you provide some more info?

We paid a national search firm big $$$ for this clown. What a disgrace! Forego the national search and go local on the next one.
Amelia--so sorry you had to endure this lecherous jerk.
Athletic department is now in a better place.

Can you imagine what would happened to her if she came forward? So many on here such as Tinny and Jamplo would have killed her for such a fabricated story about their favorite AD. It would have been he said she said and he would won while she would have been looking for a job at Walmart.

Too often things like this hide in plain sight. Men, be men, if you notice a woman being mistreated by a
co-worker say something. It may cost you something. It will be worth the price.

Complicated, but I'll try to summarize accurately.

Quite a while before Kaler arrived, a young man committed suicide while he was in a research program run by the U's psychiatry school. He had severe mental issues and was given an experimental drug that some professionals and his family believe caused him to kill himself.

There was controversy then I believe and the story never went away. When Kaler became president he reviewed the case and basically took no further action considering it settled. Some influential people have gone after Kaler about that claiming he failed to do anything because he was either whitewashing the whole thing to protect the U, important people in the medical school, or research money. Take your pick.

These people have been medical professors at the U, some legislators, and former governor Arnie Carlson. Carlson took it to the media with his main point being that a university is based on seeking the truth and here we have the head of the U ignoring the truth.

I have absolutely no idea how much Kaler is culpable in all this, but I hope like hell it doesn't come out that he had previous knowledge about Teague's sleazy behavior and that he didn't do anything about it. He has taken an approach toward athletics I like--supporting it unlike several other previous presidents.

Agree with all of this. Pretty amazing that he was so delusional that he thought he could keep behaving like this. Love the classic alcohol excuse - what a joke.

I don't know how that guarantees anything though. For all we know, none of these things happened at VCU and only started after he got to the U. There are creeps and idiots all around the country, including locally.

Where is GopherLady these days? I like to know what she thinks of this situation. I haven't read a single post from her.

She's been posting on the football side quite a bit. You can check it out there.
