If the Star Tribune was interested in the search rather than speculating on candidates it would be better all around. They would have a working relationship with Norwood Teague. They would ask him. And they could report no comment. The College Basketball World will be in Atlanta this week, Do Mr. Teague and Mr. Ellis have flight plans or reservations in Atlanta? With all the coaches being there it is a natural. Its a coaching convention. No, they won't cover it. They will sit in the Star Tribune Bldg and speculate.

I agree. No way Teague selects assistant coaches. However, the final decision on paying the assistants belongs to him. Tubby didn't seem to understand this fact when he 'hired' Jimmy Williams. It's best that Teague made sure his candidates understand the ground rules.

Folks, take a deep breath. There is a lot of fear, uncertainty, and doubt as I read the comments on GH. Have confidence that no matter who
Ellis and Teague hire will be better than Tubby. He will work harder at recruiting, he will be a better " in game " coach by making necessary adjustments and possibly even setting the tempo and creating simple mis-matches for a change!. He may even have some standard and consistent subsitiution patterns! He may even play the type of offense that put his players in a position to be successful. He will effectively connect with players and he will also develop players to become the best they can be. I guarantee his record in February will be better than Tubby's. He will also make sense when he has an interview with the local and national media. Tubby's communications style was hard to follow sometimes. All of these I listed are the basic requirments for a D1 basketball coach. It is hard to argue that Tubby was no better than average at any of them.

We will get what we get for a Men's Hoops Coach. There is a 50% chance he will do better than Tubby and a 50% chance that he won't do any better OR even worse. Basically, THIS coaching search no longer matters. We know that our new norwood is not all that much even in hoops. prexy k needs to start looking for a REAL Football Man for the AD Position that he will have to fill eventually. prexy needs to have a short list. In fact, prexy k could use my new system that will matchFOOTBALL-FIRST oriented assistant athletic directors up with college prexys. It's a really great concept that I came up with the other day. There really isn't anything out there to compete with my " Prexys Need Football Men A.D.'s R US 1 system." It's really the wave of the future!

We need quality coaches for all of our revenue producing sports .after his basketball hire then we will look at Pam Borton...Her program is suspect at best...... I am not sure where you post is headed....but the good news is Joel Maturi is not running this asylum any longer....

Rayno wrote a nice piece as I typically don't like her work. She's right on the mark this time. Society today wants things immediately. That's goes for our beloved Gopher basketball program too. I'm not saying we need to wait 7 years in Tubby time to build a legitimate program but we can wait till the NCAA's are over for a new coach. What about the Shocker coach? He'll be due for a upgrade and pay increase. Flip would have been great although if Teague really wanted to influence his staff, that's a joke. You surround yourself with people that you trust and will make you & the program succeed. It's no different with his recent VCU staff pluckings.

Lavin had a couple tourney runs at UCLA, but he never made it to the Final 4.

This is the problem with speculation. There has been very little information of substance that has leaked out, so I get that it's natural to fall on one side (a catastrophe is developing) or another (an unforeseen ace is up Teague's sleeve). The truth is, none of us have any idea what is actually going on right now and that is really not sitting well with people. It doesn't seem to be a popular opinion around here, but I'm going to let things play out before I panic.

The feel one gets on Lavin is that he's a great schmoozer/recruiter but maybe not a great basketball coach. He has had some nice recruits at St Johns but can't seem to get traction. Had talent at UCLA but mixed results there too.

He was great behind the mic, though. I would welcome him back to the braodcast booth any time. Broadcasting probably better suited his disposition as one who enjoyed fine company, wine, and victuals. His actress wife might not deem the Twin Cities the place to beef up her career.

Not calling you out, but who is panicking by the way? No one here is. People are just commenting on what is happening. I see Norwood having a tough time so far. Nothing seems to going the way he wanted. There is zero chance imo that he wanted to be still searching at this point. Others think differently. No one is actually panicking.
