Canada tried to put Davies into the Canadian history books and gave him a penalty he had no business taking over Jonathan David. David is 10/13 from the spot. This was Davies 2nd penalty kick, and it showed.

Play stupid games win stupid prizes.

Yes, it was the wrong decision, especially against one of the world's best keepers.

Any thoughts on Canada taking the game to the world #2? I think Croatia is a little more worried than they were prior to this game.

Played them off the field. They should feel good about the next 2.

Though I don’t think Belgium is close to the 2nd best team in the world. The FIFA rankings are weird. Still was a good showing.

0-0 draw between Morocco and Croatia was good for Canada. They almost definitely go through with 4 points now.

Interesting to see what Ronaldo does today - think it will be a big tourney for him and Portugal with all the upsets already.

That veins said go Black Stars

Iran beats wales 2-0 today. USA now must beat Iran on Tuesday because the US failed to beat what appears to be a poor Wales team.

Do we play to win 4-3 or do we play to win 1-0. I don’t see anyway the US holds them to 1 goal so you better be prepared to go get 4.

This is where you question subbing Jordan Morris instead of Gio Reyna. Reyna is clearly a better, more explosive and gifted player. But Berhalter decides to essentially sit on a one-goal lead with a playmaker like Reyna (who says he's ready to go) sitting on the bench. And it comes back to bite them in the end. Nonsensical in my eyes when you could have had the full three points.
Reyna says he's fit but coaching staff may think otherwise. I am sure the thought was to limit his minutes in group play. Berhalter may have thought Morris was less mistake prone than a 95% fit Reyna.

Had they coasted to the 3 points and saved his legs for today, we all might be lauding Berhalter's decision. History has a funny way of throwing wrenches in the works.

The US had a few decent scoring opportunities. They simply need to find a way to finish.

I have not been impressed with the production off set pieces. and the last free kick with seconds remaining in stoppage time - why not bang it toward the net and hope for a break?

The set pieces have been very poor. They still don't have a good forward. They never have, and that's what holds them back.

That was a master class from Gregg. Credit where credit is due.

FIFA has an ethical committee. That’s an oxymoron.

FIFA has an ethical committee. That’s an oxymoron.
This is coming from a country that litterally won't let woman even go to watch a live soccer game.
--------------
Iran’s football federation filed a complaint to FIFA’s ethics committee, according to The Guardian. The official called for a ban.

"According to section 13 of FIFA rules, any person who offends the dignity or integrity of a country, a person or group of people shall be sanctioned with a suspension lasting at least 10 matches or a specific period, or any other appropriate disciplinary measure," a legal adviser to Iran’s soccer federation told the semi-official Tasnim news agency.

There were riots over Belgium's loss to Morocco, apparently centered in Brussels but also in Antwerp and in Rotterdam in the Netherlands.

They had to play much tougher competition than the US did. Belgium is #2 and Croatia is #12.
Belgium is number 2 in the same way Michigan State football was 15 or A&M were 6. Ranked on previous accomplishments but currently terrible.

Canada would still have something to play for if they sent the right player to the spot in game 1 though.

Disappointing but Croatia looked very good and Canada looked confused. It seems that inexperience on this stage got to them. It looks quite possible that all of the CONCACAF teams will not advance with only Costa Rica winning a game after 2 games each.

Also Belgium may just not be very good after losing to Morocco. Could be Morocco and Croatia advancing.

That is true. Not having Jonathan David take the penalty was a terrible.
