All things Players Coming and Going.

The brother is still a 5 star recruit that will do extremely well in college hockey for at least two years. He'd very possibly be the best player on the 25-26 Gopher roster.
We get it. You hate bobs recruiting. This is the same draft as zeimer, Javon Moore, and whipple and he went after them all. He grades out as very similar to Zeimer. Again, you’d take him, but I guarantee PSU had to pay him to come and I don’t think he’s worth high dollars without his brother the same as a guy like Perron probably wasn’t worth the 100k he supposedly got at Michigan

Rumor is PSU offering 250k to another chl guy, Porter Martone, who looks like a top 5 pick this year.

PSU cornered the market in college wrestling and they're in the process of making the same play in college hockey. I fully expect them to be a Top 5 program moving forward.

Things can change quickly with the proper financial backing and coaching staff.

Joy of your large donor being a hockey guy and sabres owner. Maybe if they didn’t suck he’d spend less of his money at PSU 😅

This article hypes up Mooney a bit (and a sentence about Kvasnicka looking like he’ll be a solid college player):

It’s behind The Athletic paywall.
Got to like that he delivered the biggest non-Brady Martin hits of the tournament. For a small player thats even more impressive.

Crazy that the smallest kid on the team will probably be the most physical... Unfortunately he hurt himself on a check it sounds like.

Kvas drafted by the force and Phillips to the gamblers. We’ll see if they head to the ushl or if it’s just teams taking a shot to land solid players. Think both would benefit and maybe means we’re looking to add still (which I would hope so)

Everyone waiting and waiting for Motzko to actually recruit someone rather than flip someone else's work or hit the transfer portal and get the easy options, while others are out recruiting heavily. Thinking oh he's just waiting to announce the big CHL guys while they continue to commit to other schools every day.

6 1 with mediocre numbers in the ohl. What exactly excites you about this commit?

On the World Junior team, obviously is a decent prospect to have in the mix for four years.

He dressed once. The third goalies they have been entirely unremarkable for a long time and include guys like stein for Mich who was bad and Andrew oke who is now at lssu after being mediocre in the ohl.

This commit is a big nothing burger and no better than Airey when he committed

It's more about CHL commitments continue to flow in while there is this hope that Motzko is waiting to release his or something when honestly there may be nothing there.

The 'ignore' function works really well.
People on this site are seeing why Bonin21 got banned from GPL because of all his negativity. He is still being laughed at in GPL. The guy is a completed fraud as a Gopher Hockey fan.

Huge loss. Let's see who they replace him with considering the Gophers should be looking for the same type of player at the same time.

sounds like Spence going to head to Michigan (think this one was known for awhile). would really be nice if we could make a single inroad into the Toronto area rather than seeing them all go to Michigan and PSU or the east coast schools.

If you bring in Ben Barr next spring as you could have this spring, you will.

would be very interesting to see what he'd bring in here with the resources. He has one draft pick on his Maine roster and seemed to skew much older/heavier (their highest scoring Fr had 7 points) with a very Canadian and international flavor. Obviously wildly different access to players here, but would imagine he would not be quite so "heavy" on MN prospects alone which may ruffle some feathers (don't think this is necessarily a bad thing).

This would be REALLY hard for me to get over, as I get way more happiness when every player in the starting lineup is "from X, Minnesota". That's part of pride on ice.

But I think with the CHL coming in, an all MN team can probably no longer win the title. Between that (and the fact that it'll be more and more older players which I feel is lame), Big Ten never getting close to WCHA, and NIL I'm sadly starting to feel like a lot of the magic of college hockey is gone.

What makes Ben Barr a better coach than Motzko?
It's not just about coaching... It's very hard to say one coach is significantly better than another but of course we've seen more of Motzko and his lack of adjustments sometimes. But he obviously can coach as his teams with few superstars have put themselves in good pairwise positions.

It's about getting ready for the future (Motzko is old, Barr is young) with someone that understands the current landscape of recruiting, has lots of connections, from MN, and is a guy that could be with the program for 20+ years.

Idk how much connection Barr has back here any longer. Left right after Shattuck and hasn't coached near the state since (capital selects, Renssalaer, Union, Prov, WMU, UMass and finally a HC at Maine since 2021).

Think the bigger question whenever Bob decides to be done or let go is if they want someone with strong roots here to try rekindle some of the M spark (and if they think that will boost donors). Depending on what year that happens, the M specific pool is rather light at this point (I'm sure Raboin will get some run whenever it inevitably happens). Coyle seemed to go "safer" with an established coach for his last job hire in Medved but he was an M guy.

so a guy who's old and was 65th in scoring in the WHL (and 4th on his team) is your target?

He may be a fine player, but this is not new news for Barr or a big pull. If we're going up to the OHL or WHL, I hope we're aiming at the true blue chips.
The point is he getting solid players at Maine so he could obvious pull bigger guns at U... And he's pulling draft picks (and this guy has AHL experience...). He will have a bigger impact this year than a guy like Kvasnicka, Nevers, and probably Moore.
