All things Players Coming and Going.

He had the big guns before NIL really hit college hockey and UM/MSU/BC/BU separated themselves. And yes, unfortunately for him the woke university is hurting too hence parents of kids like Berchild not wanting their kid going there.

I don't think anyone can look at his recruiting the last year and a half and say it's been at what we'd historically expect.
LOL if you think DU is any less woke than the U.

Considering all the talent & having one runner-up finish in the past 26 years, I'm just glad Bonin isn't a Michigan fan. He would have killed himself by now.

My head would have exploded, even just from the stupid penalty kill wooping thing

RIT's top two scorers in the portal. One is a center that's very good at draws. They will go somewhere legit.

Carter Wilkie led RIT in scoring last year with 41 pts and transferred to North Dakota and had 18 pts in the NCHC.
I didn't mention the Gophers because you're right, Bob needs a 1C and a 2C still and this kid is like a 2.5C. He's fucked.

Reidler to PSU. Fuckkkk, I think they're going to rub in our faces getting the better portal goalie two years in a row.

Read they are getting up there in NIL... probably looking to join UM/MSU/BC/BU and it'll start to show.

i don't know why you have this obsession with Reidler. I mean I do, and it's purely because there's a little Senators logo by his name and it says he's 6'6". him going there is 0% as dire as you're making it out to be.

PSU is already one of the biggest NIL groups. They're not "getting up there". They're already there. The haves will always be the B10 (minus OSU because they don't seem to care or have a large alumni base that cares and to a lesser extent ND--alumni base good, don't know if they'll get the same perks of revenue sharing the rest of the B10 will have), BC, BU, DU and to a lesser extent UND (this could change but they haven't thrown around the money you would expect out of a program that is hockey and nothing else).

speaking of transfers, McLaughlin (UND) to BU. previously was thought he was going to WMU.

BU outbid them obviously
they 100% did. they (and Michigan) seem to have been the biggest spenders each year. Just more meaning its interesting (as are UND fans feelings that he is an addition by subtraction)

Greene and the older Hutson sign (BU). Guess it makes more sense now why they pushed on signing (and had more money available) mclaughlin

BU is absolutely stacked for next year. Wouldn't be shocked to see them get Misa too based on the recruiting trends

Misa followed Michigan hockey. Dream that was never real, is over.

I’ll be pretty surprised if he plays college hockey, or has much of a say outside where his agent wants him to go
Regardless it won't be MN. Nor his brother then of course. They won't get McKenna either obviously.

There are likely no options good enough to make the team a contender next year. He might even bring in Nevers and Reid at this point... Which will leave the cupboards basically completely bare when he hopefully retires next spring. An unacceptable state to leave the program. Usually at least a handful of incoming recruits are good enough for the new staff to work with.

you do realize that this makes literally no sense, especially after this year.

WMU just won a title with a roster that included 8 total draft picks, the highest of which was a 3rd rounder (Nehring). They were picked, at best, in the teens coming into the year. Ferschweiler prior to this year had won one postseason game with his one win coming when they were a one seed and lost to us in the regional final (other 2 years they were one and done).

MN will have somewhere around 10-13 (or so) pending how this years' draft goes. They will have more than enough "talent" to contend and win. They'll probably be the preseason 3 or 4 in the B10 (behind MSU and Mich and we'll see on how much of PSU comes back) and we just saw our end of season #4 go to the FF

I get it, we're all pissed that they blew a chance with their best title window team since... 2014? Sometimes teams look better than their individual parts. It's part of why I'd expect Bob plays a little different style with this team than the run and gun we usually play.

With a star goalie that everyone knew was a star goalie before the season started.

You're going to see late Lucia years hockey. Call it whatever style you want, but what it's going to be is just a soft team that is also not very good.

Just like Augustine won one, Fowler won one, and Gajan won one (all higher rated, higher prospects than Hammer, who I agree is outstanding).

Unfortunately no team outside of your top 5 has ever contended or won a title. you thought the 23-24 team would lose 15 games. you thought UND would contend this year because they had some names on the team and that UMD somehow would get it together by the end of the year. Maybe just give it a second and see what the team does.

Upnorthkid, serious question. Assuming no major roster changes at this point, do you seriously consider this team to contend next year?

The way I see it based on Bob's coaching style, this program is built to win one way which is to out skill the other team. Next year we will not have the skill to do that, and likely not the grit to play a more grinding style. I just don't see next year turning out any better than this year (post season specifically). As dramatic as Bonin can be, I find myself having a similar outlook as him for the foreseeable future of this program. At least, until a coaching change is made.

if you dislike the coach, there is nothing that one can say that will make you change your mind.

in reality, what do you define as "contending"? Did you think WMU was a contender to start the year? How about PSU? We're all (myself included) real jaded because of how long its been since a title and the blown title in 2023. That said, Mankato has made 2 FFs in the last 5 years (oddly enough, Dryden McKay, also not drafted). Maine came out of nowhere this year as did UConn to also be high seeds and contend. This team on paper looks like a top 10 team with 3 (likely 5 post draft pending if they all come in) draft picks on the back end, 8 up front (post draft of course) and a reasonable balance of size and speed (more so than years prior). There is talent there that can compete. They won't be as high flying and flashy as before, but that is also what got us in trouble numerous times (how many times did we watch Moore drop pass it to no one or Snuggy try way too hard to fit a pass to no one?)

Bob's teams historically have adapted to the talent of what he has available. His St Cloud team that was very good in the NCHC took a bunch of lower tier draft picks and swept the Gophers on home ice and won the NCHC tournament (I also don't get the premise that Bob can't win in tournament play given he has won multiple tournaments including a WJC) before losing a game their future NHL goalie was awful in. His 17-18 team was a lot more grimy and won closer games en route to winning the regular season title despite having lesser talent than UND or DU on paper.

All that said, Bob is a good coach. He absolutely blew the Natty vs QU. But he also has managed to put together teams that have contended at all his stops with it being much more regular here after his first two years of settling in. Are they my pick to win it all next year? No. Are they in my top 5 right now? No. Do they have the pieces to contend in a 1 and done environment and a team that may be better than having to rely on their stars to get it done, to me it looks pretty possible on paper and Bob's teams have done that in the past. So like I've said, I'd rather wait and see what they put on the ice
