Another solid pickup for them. They’ll be really young but very talented on the backend. Didn’t blow up the W and will be 18 this season

If we’re taking another d for this year, I’d rather we’re holding a DuPont caliber player, otherwise we’re standing pat. This type of player isn’t coming in to be a 7th/healthy scratch D

Yeah I mean Larson went a different direction of going old with it and splashed a little high end talent draft wise. Because of that strategy, there’s not going to be room for guys coming in next year.

If we were targeting these guys and missing on them all, I’d be more concerned but this seems like it was the concerted choice. We’ll see whether or not that was wise this spring (I think we’ll be fine this fall as so many older guys on the back end, but we’ll see where we peak to)

Really though? Exceptional job was done on the defense where guys like this would mean nothing to us. Very talented forward group still, only knock being not getting a center.

I think he recognizes we need a year of stability with older guys after that disaster. Loading up on young guys to fix every problem can be riskier after you have a team that was completely lost last year. I think the next cycle is where we will really judge his recruiting job with the younger guys.

this was also going to be something I was going to add. Nothing has been added to the pipeline yet with many guys still on market in the 2027 class and beyond (Fitzhenry, Schneider, etc).

Anyone coming in this year, seems like Larson made his choice on how he was going to put it together. One can argue whether adding more guys like Macbeath (higher ceiling, younger, more to work on defensively) versus say Lofgren (lower ceiling, solid/physical/reliable defender) is a better strategy, but I agree I wouldn't put us "so far behind" for this coming year alone

That said, he has work to do going forward both at the back and up front as Murr is gone and who knows if we see Smith back who are going to be your 2 more "dynamic" contributing defensemen and unless there's an injury, there's no way Ziemer is back and it's not like the future pipeline is overly teeming with high end talent as it sits right now aside from Conboy getting a good amount of love
 

Definitely excited to see what he does on the recruiting trail because like you alluded to there is a lot of work to be done and I think plenty of commitments needed.

8/1 will be a very exciting (or very hand-wringing) time for Gopher nation. All the pods have made it seem like Larson himself is very in on the grind of recruiting, which is a very welcome change. Add to it knowing you have a guy like Cullen who's going to be designing personal dev plans for kids and my hope is that will translate really well on the trail going forward.

Now we just need to add to the Michigan way of it just so happens all their recent 1st rounders are around the rink on their recruiting days with getting Cooley, Faber, Lacombe, Knies, Wood (for our Canadian targets) etc. all around campus to sing the U's development program praises.

Ruck twins to UND after it was originally reported they were staying on Medicine Hat. Well, now I am concerned about them.

They are returning to Medicine Hat next year, UND the following year. Not as bad I guess. They will have a lot of departures after this year. Still a big get for them 2 seasons from now.

I think it’s interesting because it’s entirely possible 1 or both get offered a pro contract after next season before they get there. Same thing with Carels this summer although I think that’s less likely.

Aside from Conboy who is a potential 1-2 rounder, I’d bet the pipeline is gonna go through a massive overhaul just like the current team did. I expect everyone else in there is on a prove it year, which I still think a couple of them can prove themselves.

We've now seen he doesn't have the funds to just pull a bunch of CHL superstars at the last minute. We're multiple years out of being a sure fire contender again, and CHL + NIL means it's not as easy to do that in MN as it was in the past.

I don’t think I’d make rash judgements when we just hired our coach 3 months ago, who then made our current roster 5x better and at the least competitive. There are probably other reasons we haven’t picked up a CHL center, and we are literally top 3 in the DuPont sweepstakes. Michigan, Mich St, and Penn State are the only 3 teams that I’d be certain have more money every single year. Denver and UND have some money compared to the NCHC but they aren’t close to those 3. Schloss has said that.

I think Larson is going to be more resourceful with NIL than Bob who was not fit for this new era. There is definitely still way more potential for money with this hockey team that hasn’t been tapped. And some of that unfortunately falls on the University athletic department as a whole.

think most people are pretty fine with Macarthur/Geiger/Conboy as solid players with upper end projections pending how they go. If you're disappointed landing NTDPers, you're going to end up being really disappointed with pretty much everyone's classes.

Both Macarthur and Geiger are another year out minimum developing and are projected as mid round picks (at least). Would project they're both very much in the mold of where Macbeath has ended up in terms of draft status.

Plenty of guys in the next up class with Gopher ties as well as some who remain uncommitted. There's still Dupont interest. They just signed Smith.

This year looks fine and there's a hell of a long time to put together next years team, particularly given your guys leaving are Ludtke, Ziemer (presumed), Murr, and possibly Smith.

Larson has work to do. He's been in the job 2-3 months though

I was excited about those two when they announced, and since they had very underwhelming years I feel like many people (including myself to an extent) gave up on them. Many U17 defenseman have growing pains playing up in that next level and I think reminders are needed of that. Next year will be a better indicator of how they are shaping out.

Apparently Geiger looked great playing at the U17 WHC against his age group.
