All Things MN United Season Thread

San Diego vs the Loons on Monday night. A couple of teams with very different styles.

This is a Fraizer vs Ali matchup, with smokin' Joe being a machine that's constantly moving forward and attacking, and Ali being the dancer on defense, deflecting the blows, waiting for the moment to strike, and when the moment opens up, he strikes quickly.
  • San Diego likes having the ball, being in possession, trying to pull the opponent out of position.
  • The Loons are content to give the ball to the other team, let them come on attack, and once they get that opening for a quick counter, they take it.
  • San Diego is certainly favored, being at home, but it'll still be fun to watch. Note that for this round, if it's a tie at regulation, they play a 30-minute OT vs going direct to PKs.

Loons lose 1-0

A lot of good opportunities to open the 2nd half.

Ramsey likely gone.

Doesn't help that we sold our best forward mid season and didn't use the sales proceeds to get a suitable replacement. When you play a style that cedes possession to the other team and rely on set pieces and counters, you need a striker who can make the most of the few scoring opportunities that will come in a game. We have a pretty good roster otherwise

Not official yet, but it will be soon. After the next season, the Loons will join Chicago, St Louis, Kansas City, Cincinnati and Columbus in their MLS division. This is good news, as I didn't want us to get lumped in with West Coast teams. We'll play each of those teams twice each season, and the other teams once.

Wow, MN United has been gutted. We sell our best player (Tani), can't resign our MVP (DSC), lose Lod, Rosales and Dotson, and now we've lost both the coaching staff from the Loons as well as MNUFC2. So we have no coaches, lost our key players, and haven't signed anyone of note. The one thing we do have is a lot cash, but we're not spending it. And, the MLS season has now shifted to us playing games in December and February...
  • Eric Ramsay to West Brom
  • Tani Oluwaseyi sold to Villarreal
  • Dayne St. Clair signs with Miami
  • Robin Lod signs with Chicago
  • Joseph Rosales traded to Austin
  • Hassani Dotson signs with Seattle

Sad times for a local team with arguably the most loyal, committed fan base in the market. As soon as the new schedule format was announced, I feared it would ultimately lead to the end of this franchise in MN. 🙁
