Found this little snippet when I was reading another article:

Iowa will have its marching band at TCF Bank Stadium on Saturday. The schools have set up a reciprocal agreement, where the Gophers marching band will visit Iowa’s Kinnick Stadium next season.

If this is true its a great step for the marching band! Finally getting to travel to away games again. Sad it's happening the year after I graduate though, haha.

Wow this is great! Hopefully it leads to more road trips but for now that is awesome the band gets to go to Iowa.
 

Glad to see a visiting band coming again to TCF, one of the great traditions of college football that MN has missed out on for the last couple decades.

In a perfect world I think every University in the Big 10 would get at least 1 visiting band a year, and every band would get at least 1 trip a year. One can dream.

Current bands who have visited TCF since its opening are tOSU, Nebraska, and, come saturday, Iowa.

Unfortunately, Minnesota is somewhat a victim of geography. On average, MN is 649 miles* from the other B1G institutions, only Maryland, Rutgers, and Nebraska are farther. Contrast that with the group of OSU, NW, Purdue, Illinois, Michigan, MSU, Indiana that are an average of around 350-400 miles from the other schools.

*Miles based on trucking industry since that's what I have access to at work and it's faster than googling all the miles :)
 

Forgot to mention, some of the band will be on CNN Headline News between 8am and 9am today!
 

I believe that back in the day of visiting fans making up a high percentage of the fans Maturi stopped allowing visiting bands.
He claimed it made too much of a home game atmosphere for the visitors.
The WI band was at the (in)famous blocked punt game and did their Fifth Quarter routine which was rubbing salt into MN wounds.
That may have been the end of visiting bands.

So, my info was wrong, it will air at a later date.
 



So we'll be having a shorter halftime this week to give the Hawkeye band some time to perform, but here's our lineup for halftime:

That's a better lineup than Billy Joel music....
 

Good theme for the halftime, hopefully the drill writer kept it simple. Superman logo, Batman logo, etc.

Basically. Some movement, but nothing complicated. Mainly just logos, but we had to throw something in there to make it a bit more interesting! We don't want to just park and bark!

Halftime Show for this week! We are bringing back songs we've played throughout the Marching Band's history. This will be the first ever performance of Minnesota Fanfare, a piece we commissioned Dean Sorenson to compose in celebrationof 125 years of the Band Program at the University!

Looks like Victory music to me! Go Gophers and let's hope it's warm enough for the whole band to play halftime.
 


Marching Band was great @ the Vikings halftime yesterday. The cascading block M was a hit ! I am a homer and cheer for all MN teams. I got my section to stand and sing the rouser. Thx band !

Thank you! I think the intention is to make this an annual thing (three years in a row now), but don't quote me on this. The band also hopes to be invited to perform at the Super Bowl next year, which would be really exciting. Too bad I will have graduated and won't be able to partake.
