All Things Gophers Coaching Search Thread (rumors, tweets, tid-bits and more)

Kind of the best ending for us.
100%.

I was very conflicted there (and all weekend). Colorado State is an easy program to root for. Fort Collins is awesome. Has so much fun there during the football weekend when we played there in 2015. And Niko proving how good of a coach he is by taking them on a deep run would've been cool to watch.

On the other hand- we need to be selfish here and get him in the door ASAP. Rams losing a heartbreaker against a clearly more talented team was ideal...and Niko coached a great game.

Colorado St postgame press conference

Maryland up first...then the Rams

Craig Smith is available if CSU wants a proven Mountain West coach. The last several times they got poached it's always been external so who knows.

Xavier can bring Chris Mack back.
Is Miller officially out of X?

Derik Queen traveled on the game winner, but it's not like traveling is ever called at any level anymore.
How do you figure?

I've watched the play 20 times by now. Gather and 2 full steps, don't see how that would remotely be considered a walk. Not with the way the game is officiated now.

Obviously the traveling rule has been liberalized/modernized over the last 10 years or so. For instance, the step back 3 would've been an automatic travel in the 90's, and it isn't any longer.

I'm not sure it's officially official but it seems that way. Off to Texas.
I'm not really sure what "official" means in these cases.

It's not official in that he hasn't been introduced in Austin yet, but it's been widely reported and is a done deal.

I figure because you get 2 steps between dribbles or between a dribble and shot, and he took 3. You can use the weasel word "gather" or whatever you want, it's still a travel. You're talking about how the game is officiated, and I'm talking about what the actual rule is. As I accurately stated, travels are hardly ever called anymore despite them happening many times per game, and players have no incentive to actually follow the rules because they aren't punished for breaking them. That was 100% unequivocally a travel, period, and of course they didn't call it because they almost never do.

Heard him say more thoughtful and intuitive things in 10 minutes than I heard Ben say in 4 years.

Niko is clearly a very good X's and O's ball coach but beyond that, he seems to be an emotionally intelligent guy. All good things.
I hate to say it, because I like Ben, but it's true. Dude is the total package. Sign him up. If he can't make it happen in Minnesota, it's not him; it's Minnesota.

I agree 100% on Fort Collins. My son lives there. It's such a clean city with great green spaces and a bunch of things to do.

That's what I said in my Gopher buddy group chat tonight.

Nothing is guaranteed but if he can't turn it around, I'm not really sure who could or where we'd turn next.

No question on job rumors? What kind of media do they have?
They just loss a heartbreaking game. Niko wouldn't have answered any questions about his future anyway in this setting.

They know what is happening. Not asking the question was the right thing to do under the circumstances. You don't want to put the coach in a position where he either has to lie or hurt people in a presser.

Okay. But you and I both know that would never happen here or in any major media market.

I agree....but I'm still surprised somebody didn't try to make a name for themselves and ask.....
