I had us at 43 as the most possible. I think guys that would've been possible you don't have listed are Randon Dauman and Jared Everson who I'm not completely sure if they are back or not and then freshman Jack Spanier who was included in the highlight tweets.

First 2 commits for 2025 are RHP.
Zach Trettin Southwest Christian, MN and Adam Urban Wauwatosa, WI.

Dang this is frustrating!

Gophers have been sharing fall standouts. So far they've done freshman hitter and pitcher with Charlie Sutherland and Kyle Remmington being named there respectively.

Perfect Game list of top incoming freshmen. Three Gophers listed.

Finally got the roster updated on gophersports as well

Merila played through a torn ligament in his elbow last spring and has rehabbed it so should see more of him in the OF this spring. Right now sounds like our starters would be C-Neels, 1B-Bork, 2B-Counsell, SS-Mezzenga 3B-Perry LF-Merila CF-Berkland, RF/DH-Fitzgerald/Hokenson
Pitching wise Novotny and Wietgrefe seem like sure bets to start and then could be any of Semb, Gross, and Argento. Bullpen has depth but the big pieces look like Clausen, Rooney, and Hokenson. Souned like a lot of depth on the roster and pretty encouraging fall.

It does seem like this team has a chance to be improved and move up in the standings next year. They have a core of position players returning and have players who have seen action for depth and matchup options. On the mound, there seems to be enough talent, and last year we lost all three weekend starters and top two relievers and still improved, and I think there is potential to improve more this year (...if no setbacks from injuries, and a surprise or two, we will be there).

After 3 rough years record wise, it is time to be better. Make the Big 10 tournament. Winning record. Next step. Let's go!

Wow, you look at the number of those 500 going to mostly southern blue blood baseball schools and it's understandable how northern/B10 schools rarely make it out of regionals

Any update on schedule?
Still waiting on it to be released. Last year, if I recall correctly, it was released quite late (though often most of it is known by then anyway).

As of now, here is what is known:

Feb 16-19 @ Sanderson Ford Classic (Surprise, AZ) Cal State Bakersfield, Oregon State, New Mexico, Oregon State

Feb 23 @ Minnesota Twins exhibition
Feb 24-25 vs. Northeastern (in Fort Myers, FL)

Mar 29-31 @ Iowa

Apr 5-7 Illinois (home)

May 3-5 Nebraska (home)

I had that same thought too. Indiana seemed to be best among Big Ten (and had even better representation on this last year IIRC), but for much of the list, it is a "Who's who" of power programs.

MINNESOTA

Head Coach
: John Anderson
2023 Record: 18-34 (10-14)

Strengths

The strength of this 2024 Gophers squad will be its junior class which will serve as the backbone and will dictate much of the team’s success. Infielders Brady Counsell and Jake Perry, lefthander Tucker Novotny and righthanders Seth Clausen and Sam Malec all arrived on campus together and will serve integral roles.

Weaknesses

There isn’t much defined impact talent on the Minnesota roster, although they’re hopeful a few of their promising prospects continue to progress.

Star Power

Lefthanded pitcher Connor Wietegrefe excelled in his first year with Minnesota after beginning his college career at the JUCO level. A year ago he served as the team’s bullpen ace, making 22 appearances and recording a 3.83 ERA with five saves over 44 innings of work. He has a knack for missing bats thanks to his low-90s fastball and sweeping slider from a lower, slinging arm slot. Wietegrefe will be a weekend starter in 2024.

Glue Guy

Switch-hitting senior outfielder/designated hitter Boston Merila enjoyed his best season last year, batting .303 with a disciplined approach. Second baseman Brady Counsell is expected to take another step forward while Tucker Novotny enjoyed success as the team’s weekend ace last year and will give the starting staff a second lefty opposing teams have to contend with.

Pick To Click

Kris Hokenson really stood out in the summer and fall and is expected to take a big step forward. A two-way player, he’ll serve a big role in both the middle of the lineup as a lefthanded slugger and on the staff as a lefthanded pitcher. Fellow sophomore Weber Neels came up with some big hits as a freshman, finishing second on the team in homers (7), and is expected to continue in his development. Clausen turned a corner with the command and overall feel for his slider and he could develop into one of the Big Ten’s most dynamic late-inning relievers.

Top Newcomer

The overall depth of the pitching staff is improved and transfer Tommy Gross (Creighton) is a big part of that. Built big and strong at 6-foot-2, 210-pounds, Gross sits in the low-90s with his fastball, touching 95-97 in shorter stints, and is expected to be a valuable addition to the staff either as a starter, a high-leverage reliever or both.

2024 Outlook

Long-time head coach John Anderson has announced this will be his last year with the program, leading the Gophers to 19 NCAA Tournament appearances in 42 seasons, which included hosting a regional in 2018. With the program’s recent struggles, Minnesota’s overall success in Anderson’s final season will be intriguing to follow with a strong core of talent, several promising young players and some key additions through the portal. Considering the amount of turnover in both players and coaches throughout the Big Ten, the opportunity for a bounceback season is especially tangible.

Goldie I have a week pass for the tournament and getting excited. The place is very cool. Huge scoreboard that flashes velo on each pitch. Warm wether. Lots of scouts.
Stadium is training camp for 2 MLB teams.
It is a hoot

Roster has been updated from the fall with two guys no longer on the roster in R-FR Gilbert Saunders and FR Oliver Giel. Both are now listed on different JC rosters.

Really good stuff from Coach Anderson's press conference today. Lot of good stories from his time. Check it out if you have 45 minutes or so on youtube
Some bad news Noah Rooney suffered arm injury and will try to rehab but likely needs surgery. Had been up to mid 90s.
Joe Hauser tore ACL in December and is out for year.
Sam Kennedy is healthy and will work back slowly while TJ Egan is still getting back from tommy john.

How is it possible neither the Star Tribune or Pioneer Press did a story on Anderson's press conference yesterday? Unless I missed it, I don't see anything on it. The legend speaks for 45 minutes and the two newspapers don't have the respect or decency to write about it? Probably needed another story about Kirk Cousins instead.

Anderson is also the guest on the latest episode of the Go Gopher podcast. Some overlap with the press conference, but more preview of the upcoming season and also interesting comments on the state of college baseball.

The 2024 season is here. I'm cautiously optimistic this will be a better year and team will at least get back to Big 10 tourney. Wietgrefe, Novotny, and Semb listed as the starters for first three games in Surpirse; Monday starter TBD. Let's roll!
