MN Daily: Gophers keeping 2016 recruits in-state

Carter Coughlin is a four-star linebacker out of Eden Prairie, Minn., who received offers from Ohio State, Oregon, Wisconsin and Michigan State.

In years past, top in-state recruits like Coughlin would be lured away by those power-house schools, two of which just competed for the first-ever College Football Playoff championship.

But this year is different. Gophers head coach Jerry Kill has locked down almost all of the top recruits in Minnesota for the 2016 recruiting class, including Coughlin, who committed to his hometown team back in March.

“I grew up attending Gophers games with my family, and after seeing how coach Kill has really turned around the program, it seemed like a no-brainer,” Coughlin said.

Higher score than even last time he tested.

Dude should be a sure fire top 100 (will be hard to be consensus top 50 so 100 feels safer) when this is all said and done. Unbelievable athlete

For perspective, he tested at 123.6 earlier (that put him in the elite athlete) and now tested at 128.55 (this is freak athlete). He'll move up in a big way.

Amazing.

Any chance he moves up into 5-star territory, or is he not quite on that level? Would the fact that he is already committed be a deterrent against him moving higher up in the rankings?

Numbers from the Chicago regionals back in May for comparison

The Opening will be televised on ESPNU Thursday and Friday 7:00 I believe.

Assuming he gets bumped up from a Rivals 3* sometime?? (yes, I know he's the same player regardless.....but....MOAR STARS!!)

Apparently their regional scout wants to see him live first. Probably won't happen until his senior season starts.

His team should be on in about 16 minutes as of now. He is on Team Match Speed. It is a recording and I heard he may or may not have won MVP of the game.

Take over Campbell after this year?

If he doesn't start his freshmen year, I still see him playing. Short of injury I think he'll be too good to use a redshirt on.
