All things biking.

Little cold out today and just set up a bike with new handlebars. Didn’t stay out long. Need to make some adjustments on that bike.

Bike fit is everything!

If there was anything I would recommend to anyone who doesn't ride a lot but was thinking of riding more, get yourself a professional bike fit. I've seen them run around $75, maybe $100, most places will do a fit for you when you buy a bike from them. I've had a few bike fits and I keep a printout/PDF of every pertinent dimension so if I buy a new bike, they can just transfer those measurements to the new bike.

Of the things I see the recreational rider doing "wrong" most often, two things would be a poor bike fit, and also pushing too big of a gear. I know when my saddle is more than 1 or 2 mm too high or too low. Pushing too big of a gear can be really tough on your knees. On the first page of my bike computer, of the things I pay attention to one of them is my cadence (how fast you spin). I run around 90-92 rpm

There's a couple of checks you can do to get your saddle height pretty close that are simple, but a good bike fit can make your cycling a WHOLE lot more enjoyable!

Got my bike tuned up. The rear axle had bent and caused damage in the hub so I have a new wheel. Also new brake cables as mine were starting to fray. Yesterday I had a relaxing ride in the 70 degree temps. It was great to be back in the saddle after a winter of walking.

Bad crash from a women's race in Italy a week ago. The woman that got the worst of it had trouble breathing but was released from the hospital the other day.

Another great day to get out on the road. fan of Ray, you gotta be out riding lately, no?

The warmer and warmer it gets the more important it will be to get out early in the morning and get those miles in.

Just a horrible crash in the closing kms of the Tour of Wallonie Stage 3 this morning. Holy shit.

I can't ever remember seeing a crash like this, on a dead straightaway with completely dry conditions. Took out like 80+% of the riders in the sprintout.

Anyone watch the Giro de Italia? I watched a few days, but didn't have time to watch closely. I haven't even seen who win, but it looks like a Frenchman was doing quite well.

I watched the whole Giro, every day. There were some good Stages, but for the overall, nobody was really on the level of Vingegaard, as was expected. It already wasn't a very strong field and a few of the guys who could have remotely given him a challenge pulled out in the weeks before the race due to illness or injury, etc. (I forget who exactly, Joao Almeida for one).

As always, it was a good way to kill some time in the mornings for 3 weeks. Pogacar will be in top form for the Tour de France, but Vingegaard sure sounds like he's poised to at least be a strong challenger

The Tour Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes just started the other day, which is the new name for the old classic, the Criterium du Dauphine (or just the Dauphine) and it actually has a really strong field and if I'm not mistaken, this one week Tour is almost entirely a Climbers race, basically no sprinters in the field as most of the Stages are mountain/hilly

Very strong field, looking forward to watching this; It's on Peacock for anyone interested
