All things B1G players declaring for NBA and/or key players transfer thread

I think they will be just fine.. with 1 five start, 3 four stars and 2 three start recruits.

Game isn't played on paper. IU has a lot to replace. As people just saw with UK this past season, just because you have a lot of highly touted recruits coming in doesn't mean you will be good. IU has too many parts to replace to not have a big drop-off considering the guys they are bringing in. They didn't get much of anything from many if not all of highly regarded recruits last year. I'd say they are in line to be a bubble team for sure, a #8 or #9 seed at best.

One of the things I heard in Atlanta this past weekend is that McGary has academic issues, which may give him another reason to leave early... We can only hope he leaves early for whatever reason.

I think people need to quantify how far is falling for Indiana?, what is just "fine", etc. I think Indiana finishes anywhere from 3 to 7. Mich st and Ohio St at the top tier, the next tier: Indiana, Iowa, Wisconsin, Purdue, below that: Minn, northwestern, Penn st. and the bottom: Illinois and Nebraska. I left out Michigan as they could only lose Burke which i would put them in the top tier, or they could lose 4 guys and then they'd go in my 3rd tier.

@BTNTomDienhart: Sandi Marcius has requested and been granted a release from his scholarship, Purdue head coach Matt Painter announced Thursday. Tough loss.

It's been announced tonight that Remy Abell is transferring from IU, which is only important because Crean needed another scholarship opening to sign another player who might actually be good.

Also announced today that Purdue's Jacob Lawson is transferring. Boilermaker frontcourt is looking thinner by the day.

Trey Burke declared for the NBA draft today. Wonder if hardaway or mcgary will announce soon.

Would not break my heart to see those guys go. Burke's stock will not get higher. McGary has an NBA body and motor right now. Hurts the Wolverines.

Burke is the only one who is really ready for the NBA. Hardaway, McGary and Robinson still need to improve. McGary would make a team and be allowed to mature into a solid NBA player while sitting the bench. Hardaway and Robinson would end up in the D-league or overseas.

2014 is going to be absolutely loaded so I think he better go. The freshman class next year is considered much better than this years, plus almost all of the Kentucky players are returning. Some experts think Kentucky could have 8 or 9 first round picks next year.

If Kentucky is returning most of their players are they going to experience too many incoming recruit problems? Do they not normally recruit to fill holes from prospective players leaving early?

Everything I hear Robinson is the best prospect at Michigan. Pro scouts love his game and potential. McGary would most likely be a lottery pick if he declared. IMO

Robinson is what Rodney Williams was as a freshman. Lots of potential, but very raw. He'd be better served to stay at UM and develop his skills. McGary might be a late 1st round pick. He doesn't have the shooting range or the footwork to be a lottery pick...yet. He'd be better served to stay at least one more year at UM. IMO

You go when your stock is highest, regardless of if you're ready or not.

Robinson may never develop further and then he is a late second round pick. Same with McGary.

If you are fairly certain you'd be a first round pick, you leave every time IMO.

As an example, a guy I went to high school with was a pretty mediocre basketball player, but was 7 foot. He had a great two tournament games and was a lottery pick when he left. Played maybe 10 total minutes in the NBA, but got a guaranteed contract. He would not have benefited at all coming back, he went when he had a high stock and got drafted and paid very well. Had he come back he probably would have not gotten any better and wouldn't have even sniffed the draft.

Illinois has 4 transfers and 4 players graduating. Yikes.

Yeah, but none of the transfers were any good, just dead weight courtesy of Bruce Weber. So it's really more of a positive that those guys left because it gives them room to add transfers like Cosby and now they will be able to add guys that can actually play.

The trajectories of Williams and Robinson as their prep careers came to a close were opposite and that continued in their respective frosh years.

Rodney played 12.4 minutes per game. Robinson played almost 34 per game and had an impressive 128 ORtg. Really, really nice year for Robinson.

Robinson goes in the first round, maybe lottery, if he enters this year. If he comes back and does well he's likely a top 10 guy a year from now. Another year to add strength would be helpful, but someone will be more than happy to give him guaranteed money two months from now if he'd like to go that route.

What Beilein got out of those freshman is remarkable.

Sat next to him on a flight to Boston a while back. Good guy

He did always seem like a nice guy. He was a senior my freshman year. The perception was he had a terrible work ethic. Being 7 foot though he never really did need to work.

I think if you asked anyone his senior here if he'd be a lottery pick one day you'd get laughed at. Especially after Tollackson dominated him in the state tournament.

Supposedly he worked a bit though in college, played well against Kansas in the tournament and he was a lottery pick.

As for michigan's guys, if they think they can raise their stock, by all means go for it. However, with the risk of injury and never knowing how you do the next season, as soon as I had a first round contract I'd be gone.

Misleading. Really just three. Shaw, Langford, Djimbe. And they scored fewer points total this year than Brandon Paul had in one game against Gonzaga. The fourth "transfer" is a walkon who, because he has graduated, can go somewhere and play as a grad student. Berindini went through Senior Night at Illinois.

Illinois will likely bring in one or two fifth year grad students to bolster the roster. Abrams, Bertrand, Egwu, Henry return. Rayvonte Rice is eligible after transferring in from Drake. He averaged 17 a game there. Also a top 15 recruiting class coming in. I am a big fan of 6-7 wing Malcolm Hill. Probably a rebuilding year, but Groce has a chance to do big things at Illinois, IMO.

Combes, I saw somewhere that Illinois was in on Josh Davis' (Tulane 5th-year PF). Is that accurate?

Robinson is what Rodney Williams was as a freshman.

Actually, there is not much of a comparison:

WILLIAMS 4.2 ppg, 55% FG, 29% 3pt FG, 1.6 rpg
ROBINSON 11 ppg, 57% FG, 33% 3pt FG, 5.4 rpg

You have to take in to account minutes per game too...

Of course you do.

Rodney was able to earn about 12 minutes per game on a mediocre Big Ten team.

Robinson was able to earn about 34 minutes per game on a team that played for the National Title.

To me, that stengthens the argument that there really isn't much of a comparison.

This made me laugh that minutes were needed to be taken into account. If your 1st post about their stats wasn't clear to anyone who thinks Rod and Glen had comparable FR seasons, then this couldn't make it more clear.
