All Things 2026 Transfer Portal Thread

Portal doesn't officially open until April but I am sure these announcements will come fast and furious as teams wrap up their seasons.

These kids already know where their options are for next season. Most kids going D2 and Mid-Major plan on playing freshmen year and moving up. I've heard that the Madson kid from Mankato East via Sioux Falls D2 has five schools within the Summit and MVC he's looking at.

I'm intrigued by a guard that averages 8.5 rpg...

I subscribed to ESPN+ this season mostly just to be able to watch those teams whose games never appear on the leading sports channels until their conference tournament championship. Like you, I try to check out guys who may have the potential to move up at the end of the season.

I did see Lindenwood (not to be confused with Longwood) play Little Rock and SE Missouri in their conference tournament and checked out those two guys. Both of them played well but they had things that make me hesitate a bit. Jadis Jones has a bit of a Langston Reynolds look but he is a mediocre free throw shooter (hovers around 60%) and rarely shoots the 3 at all. Williams isn't any better at the free throw line. While he shoots the three far more often than Jones, he only averaged 29.3%. It must be said that was a significant improvement from 18.6% the season earlier.

36% 3 point shooter on a little under 3 attempts per game. 52% shooter overall. 3 point and FT shooting percentages were down compared to last year.

Langston turned out to be pretty solid for Niko this year, wouldn't you say?

High PPG, not very efficient (36% FG, 31% 3 pointers). Played 36 minutes per game, so he'd fit right in 😄

Yeah, but there are no rules to go by any longer. It is an absolute free for all.

According to the rules cited in that article, there is nothing wrong with attending (as a passive observer) a conference tournament game to observe a player who is not yet in the portal. Personally, I don't see why that should be wrong.

Where this particular staffer may have erred, according to comments by the playing team's coach, was by having some interaction with the player(s) of interest. We don't know how much the player's coach may have been embellishing the extent of that contact. Still, it's probably best if scouting visitors say nothing at all to any potential targets. Perhaps that should be explicit in the rules.

I saw this yesterday. This might be the most productive player to enter, or to announce the intent of entry, so far.

Work your magic Cade!

Spent 2 years at TCU and then 2 years at Belmont so he basically took over to Tyson at Belmont, would be fitting for him to do the same at Minnesota next year. Unfortunately he never actually played with Cade at Belmont so doubt there is much of a relationship there that would help us.

Another Belmont transfer, poor school is going to lose anyone good every year.

This kid's Dad is from Wayzata originally and I believe he played college ball at St. Cloud State.

Go Gophers!!

These mid majors seem to be able to just reload with talent though. The portal doesn't seem to have hurt them overall in terms of being competitive. I'm guessing these smaller programs are able to get more talent out of HS than they were previously.

Yep, they are now a prime destination for players like Freitag, who couldn't get minutes early on at a bigger school who would probably never have considered them in the past.

I think all of that is true. However, the mid majors will never again have talented teams with experience. The best will not stay. I agree that they will be able to get higher rated frosh than in the past- as will teams like Minnesota. The top 20 NIL teams will take the best of the HS crop (top 50 or so) and the best of the experienced high level college talent.
