All Things 2026 Minnesota Vikings Off-Season Thread

I was correct last year at this time about the Vikings blowing JJ Mac smoke and I’ll be right again about the team this year.

KAM - "Wall Street Data Analyst"
Teasley - "Player Talent Evaluator"

We'll see how it goes but I'm calling it a huge upgrade.
He learned football and was part of a FO which has hoisted two Vince’s, I’m excited and @Spaulding!No! is very afraid

I'm a fan of the hire. Heard nothing but good things about him. Gotta shake my head at this knucklehead Arif Hasan (sometimes appears on the Locked on Vikings pod with Luke Braun, who I like); early on he was laughing and poking fun at the Vikings for largely considering people who were at the far opposite end of the spectrum as KAM. Well for one, no shit Sherlock, of course they did. And secondly, considering they have a strong cap guy in Rob B, they should have absolutely targeted people with a strong player evaluation background.

Looking forward to hearing more from Teasley and how he plans on conducting business and running the Vikings operation. Sounds like he'll report directly to ownership.

Also, I wonder how many of the scouting department he'll try to poach from Seattle. Gotta imagine some of those guys are loyal to him for a few years now

This guy sure sounds like he's hungry, like nothing has ever been handed to him, and he'll work tirelessly to make the roster better every chance he gets.

Let’s double check the resume. Don’t need another George O ‘Leary. The storeis a stadium can tell

Adam Schefter reports that the Browns are finalizing a trade that will send DE Myles Garrett to the Los Angeles #Rams.

The #Browns will receive DE Jared Verse, a 2027 first-round pick and other draft-pick compensation in return for Garrett.

This trade has not been finalized, but the two... #NFL

Try to get one more before Stafford window closes

Ouch. Now this stings....

Honestly, the Cardinals need to just trade Brissett (there would be a lot of teams looking for a very good backup) and move on. But this is hitting below the belt

I don't think I really believe this report here. I don't think Teasley leaves what was a very good job in Seattle to take the Vikings job if he doesn't have the full weight of what the position would typically hold. I think this is largely nonsense. I'm sure KOC has some serious stroke in the building but nothing that would reduce the new GM

I have no issues with the Teasley hiring, but I wanted McKay because the Rams just proved once again that they have the best FO in the NFL.

I would hope you are correct. KOC should be on a 1 year trial to impress the new GM enough to keep him around in 2027 or longer.

On the other hand, nothing in the Wilfs' track record indicates to me that they are able preside over a football franchise to sustain consistent success.

Nothing more than pop ups over 21 seasons and those are few and far between.

Seeing this reported in several different areas. This would make the Packers pass rush a whole shitload better, that's for sure. Not awesome for the Vikings but not catastrophic either. A really good player, not exactly an elite player.

Cardinals going all-in on tank mode it seems, which I'm completely fine with. Why not...

Howie fleeces yet another team. What an outrageous overpay for a guy that Philly HAD to get rid of. Could have waited them out until August. If the Patriots come crashing back down to earth next season, which could certainly happen, that 1st rounder will look pretty damn good.

If Howie calls me and I'm another NFL GM, I'm very very unlikely to answer the phone (and yes, I'm still happy with what the Vikings got for Greenard)

Sure IF the team wins, all is forgiven. Worked out wonderfully for the Rams earlier this decade.

However, if 8 teams sell out and go "all in" to win in a given season then at least 7 are going to fail to win a Super Bowl and as many as 6 will not even win their Conference.

It's possible all 8 fail and teams just staying the course make it to the Big Game. Failing while squandering future assets such as Draft picks, young talent or even salary cap flexibility is the double whammy.

Mike Lynn went all in for Vikings in 1989, following 2 seasons of at least winning Playoff games and a season removed from the NFC Championship. Those '89 Vikings got into the Playoffs on the final day of the season and got subsequently clobbered by the 49ers at the end of their Montana Era Dynasty.

It would take until 1997 for the Vikings to even win a Playoff game. Having all that Draft capital that was sent to Dallas would have likely improved their fortunes throughout the 90s.

The Cowboys, who went the opposite of trying to win a Super Bowl in 1989, won 3 during the next decade.
None of this proves that the "correct" "answer" is "don't try to win the Super Bowl this year".

That makes no sense

It's too bad they had no takers...could've gotten Banks around Pick 40.
You still feel the need to lie about this, simply because the Vikings made you and all the other people who invest time trying to predict that draft, look really stupid?

If we don't take Banks, then the Chiefs take him in the first round instead of Woods.

Prove it wrong. You can't

I think it was a move they had to make. Greenard kinda put them in that position by asking for more money the offseason after he missed games due to injury. You could make an argument that the very reason they drafted Turner was to ultimately replace Greenard. And here we are.

I get that the "worldwide leader" had to write something so they went with this. Not a big deal. The Vikings moved a solid player and got a solid return.

The Vikings aren't better because of it, no doubt, but if there was a position to move on from a solid player, with Turner directly behind him on the depth chart, this was it. And the cap savings makes it even more palatable
Bold is exactly correct.

We could have signed him at the money he wanted. But he was not that high of a priority for us, when we had Turner ready.

But that's a boring narrative that won't get people to click on it.

The Cowboys did not try to win the Super Bowl in 1989, they went the exact opposite. It greatly assisted them winning 3 Super Bowls in the 1990.

The Vikings who went "All In" in 1989, has not even made it to the Super Bowl since that season. The 3 years of Draft assets lost would have assisted in that effort during the 1990s.

^^^^^ yes, 5-3, if you count that joke of a game last year to end the season.

If we had sat our starters, and they played their starters, it's 4-4
Silly thing to say when that never would have happened.

If we had beaten the Bears at home, as we did until the final kick return blunder, then Packers play their starters against our starters ... and Flores bitchslaps Lafleur once again, as he has done repeatedly.

We then go on to make the playoff instead of the Packers, and we win the game instead of the Bears.

Bold: it's neat how you simply get to declare this to be true, with no proof? Of course the Cowboys would have liked to have won the Super Bowl in 1989.

But I guess you get to wave your hands and come up with some imaginary threshold of if they were "trying to" or not?

Why does a one-off anecdote from nearly 40 years ago "prove" anything about today?

Because it directly refutes this statement.

Every head coach, coordinator, and GM, on every team, every single year should be looking at that year as "how do we get to the Super Bowl this year".

If they aren't doing that each and every year, they should be fired.

Arizona gets it this year. Distant 4th in their own Division. Trying to get to a Super Bowl this year would be downright foolish.

Letting go of current assets to improve their ability to compete in the future is the correct move, IMO.
