All Things 2026 Minnesota Vikings Off-Season Thread

i hate the way the NFL allows restructuring. Think the NHL has it mostly right, though I'd like to see them make it so you can do escalating contracts that lock rather than smooth the AAV over the years.
The Vikings will be doing the same thing with Jefferson in the next month.

I really don't care about how they work the cap. Everyone is on the same playing field, it's pretty clear. If you're a team that has someone better at working the cap and manipulating it, good on you, I"m all for it. It's not really for the fans to figure out, I have never cared.

Locked on Vikings dedicated a pod today to Tua's availability and could he end up in Minnesota. Man, I'm just not a fan. Forget about the concussion issues, which are significant issue to say the least.

I don't want Tua as my starting QB either having to play in Chicago or Green Bay in December or January, or particularly the playoffs. The arm strength just isn't there to drive the ball down the field, it never has been, and it's weakened in recent years as well. And he really doesn't throw the ball down the field which is something KOC wants.

I don't see Tua as an option, at all. His market this spring may be quite a bit less than some people think it will be.

I can’t imagine after the Kelly debacle this year that the Wilfs will write any checks for a concussion prone player -it’s the silly season, so maybe next they’ll talk about Stroud, which McShay did the other day and I’ll post later, or Mahomes

Stroud I could actually see before Tua. But Houston doesn't seem as out on him as they should be. I'll take JJ over either of them.

I’d roll with Strioud over JJ.

Much better passer

I'm with Ogie on this one. Mac Jones is only a $1M cap hit for SF next year and Purdy has shown a propensity for getting injured. With a roster ready to compete now, I think SF would be foolish to trade away their cheap QB security blanket unless someone offers them a FRP.

I'm fine with rolling the dice on Murray considering JJM is still on his Rookie deal. I wouldn't trade much more than a 4-5 Round Pick depending how much of his salary ARI is willing to eat.

I think Malik Willis ends up in ARI and after Mendoza, this QB draft class appears to absolute garbage compared to most.
As for the 49ers, I kind of think they'd do it. I believe Shannahan thinks he can make anyone a solid QB and he might not be wrong.

You might be right. Shannahan is certainly proven as a QB developer. I still lean towards Murray's upside over Jones especially if more draft capital is needed to acquire Mac.

I'd have to imagine Jefferson might be getting anxious about our QB situation and may be given a voice in their decision.

None of us are in that building so we have no idea; can we really rule out the fact that they weren't VERY encouraged with how JJM played down the stretch and handled the offense? Obviously the best case scenario for the Vikings is that they ARE all-in on JJM and he proves them right. That's a couple of big "IFs", but certainly not impossible

Like I mentioned before, if they're even thinking of letting Jones go, they've already identified who the next reclamation project is. Richardson? Levis? Could be any one of a number of players.

I've never heard anyone describe Murray as an accurate passer, and certainly not a pocket passer as KOC's offense demands.

I'm surprised by the 68% in five games in 2025 ... but then the rating was only 88.6. That tells me he his accuracy is being inflated with short passes.

There are some number of non-easy passes that a QB has to make in every game, to make an offense like KOC's go.

I don't trust Murray to make them, any more than I trust him not to run around and hurt himself.

Exact same is true of McCarthy.

The Bears possibly moving to Indiana would just be absolutely classic.... most everything in Chicago and/or Illinois goes to shit already...

Are the Wilfs actually good NFL owners?

Mackey & Judd get it.

I guess it depends on what your criteria are. You can rank on any number of different parameters. I did a quick internet search of ownership rankings and one had the Wilfs #9 and one had them #12, while the most recent NFLPA Players Report Card gave the Vikings Ownership Team an A+

If you're basing it Purely off results, of course that will change those rankings dramatically, teams moving up and down the ladder. There are teams who many would consider some of the worst Owners in the league that have either SB titles or SB appearances or Conference Champ games on their watch; Mara, Bidwill, Irsay, Benson, Mike Brown, et al

My own criteria; provide the people you've hired with the resources they need to be successful, don't be cheap, be willing to spend money when it's warranted, don't skimp on facilities, etc. The Wilfs pretty much do all of that.

That being said, they need to get this next GM hire right. There's no question about it.
