We were here in December of 2024 and it was very quiet. Now it’s super busy. The vast majority of restaurants and stores are open. Talking with people about 60% of the rooms are rooms / homes are completed and ready for occupancy. First time I’ve been in March so the number of people coming and going from the island is crazy. Fort Myers is super busy too.

Twins roster projection 3.0: Weak spots, logjams and dart throws 2 weeks from Opening Day

From yesterday’s joint article from Gleeman/Hayes regarding the starting rotation

Starting pitchers (5)​

In: Joe Ryan, Bailey Ober, Simeon Woods Richardson, Taj Bradley, Mick Abel

My assumption is the Twins will send the odd man out from the rotation competition to Triple A, rather than the MLB bullpen, to keep them stretched out and ready as in-season depth. And of course, they still need to avoid more injuries for another two weeks.

Each day's closer will be determined by the members of the bullpen drawing straws. Loser has to close.
 


The Joe Ryan experience was peaking today with -

5 Hits
1ER
6 Ks
Lowered his ERA 1.29

&

Topa lowered his ERA to 17.36


Seems like they should just give us the Central Division 👑 now
 


Ober follows up with a nice outing himself.

1 ER
Lowers ERA to 2.08.

Not concerned about his lack of Ks this far, as he knows how to pitch, since he isn’t a power pitcher to start with and since he had to tweak his motion because of the hip injury he had last year, he’s still figuring it out and building up his strength.

I think he and Ryan will excellent campaigns and give us a chance to win in most of their outings.

Per Twins twitter he's cooked because his fastball only hit 88 and he should retire ASAP.

Thanks for the chuckle. Meddlesome Kids!! I think I’m going to enjoy middle age far more than I thought.

That’s because they love them some VELO and are can’t fathom that a 6-3 or F7 in the book are also outs. They probably never say or paid attention to Greg Maddox because he wasn’t the Big Unit🤦‍♂️.
 







This may be the worst offense in Twins history, and that's saying something. They really look helpless this spring.

They said his velocity wasn’t getting any better and they didn’t think he could be effective; they took a flyer on him.
 

Wallner having a nice spring at .356 with more singles than extra base hits and 8 walks vs.14Ks.

Maybe he’s figuring it out 🤞

The number one way to make the twins roster. Be on the 40 man and out of options. That all but guarantees you start the year in the majors. Outman sucks but he’s on the 20 man roster and is out of options. This team is just soul crushing in their decision making.

I'm surprised they didn't just put Austin Martin on the IL, but I'm glad he's on the team. I agree that you'd rather keep Roden than Outman, but I don't think Roden's a guy you want on the bench so it's not a huge issue IMO. He will get his chance at some point.

Roden also has options, Outman doesn't. I'm guessing they wanted to keep both guys for now.
 

A reason for hope?

The last time the Twins were projected to be this bad (2017), they made the playoffs, per Gleeman -

For anyone looking for reasons to believe in the 2026 Twins, there’s this: In both 2015 and 2017, the Twins were projected to be awful after being so bad the previous season that it got the manager or general manager fired. And in both 2015 and 2017, they surprised everyone with a winning record.

Paul Molitor replaced Gardenhire as manager in 2015 and led the Twins to a 13-game jump, narrowly missing the playoffs at 83-79. Everything fell apart in 2016 and Terry Ryan was let go. Derek Falvey replaced the longtime GM in 2017 and the Twins improved by 26 games, making the playoffs at 85-77.
