All Things 2025 Minnesota Vikings Off-Season Thread

The intensity seemed fine on Monday Night until Darnold was strip-sacked and the Rams scooped and scored to go up 14. Failed on 4th down later in the 2nd Quarter. Game over.
Why go for it on 4th down in the second quarter, when we get the ball back to start the 3rd ?

We’re only down two scores at that point and we whiff and then give them a short field to go up three scores? That’s the ballgame from my perspective.
They just aren't as good as either the Rams or Lions as currently constructed. That's my opinion.

Ouch. Just listening to "Follow The Money" in VSiN (the 24/7 sports gambling channel, I highly recommend!), just a depressing stat they rolled out:

From the time of the Darnold to Cam Akers TD in the Green Bay game, to put the Vikings up 27-10, the Vikings went the next TWENTY-ONE drives without scoring a TD. 21 drives. Holy shit....

They then proceeded to go through some of the most painful moments in Vikings history

Jan 17, 1999; NFC Champ game against Atlanta. 10.5 favorites the Vikings were that game. They drug up some pretty horrendous decisions by Denny Green late in that game as well

Dec 28, 2003; Vikings at AZ Cardinals (or was it the PHX Cards back then; I was at this stupid game in the desert, the old Sun Devil stadium). Vikings only have to win against the 3-12 Cardinals to get into the playoffs. Cardinals 4th down on the Vikings 27, (now Vikings QB Coach, Josh McCown!), heaves it into the end zone for a TD. I remember seeing at least one sign at the stadium that said something like "Screw the draft pick!!! Beat the Vikings!!!"

2009 NFC Champ Game - NO Saints. Vikings take a penalty for too many men in the huddle, Favre turns it over. Game over. The famous bounty game.

Jan 10, 2016; the Seattle playoff game; 6-below, 25-below windchill. Trailing 10-9, out comes Blair Walsh for a 27-yd FG, no good. (True story, just classic; I bought 4 tickets for what would be the Mpls Miracle game a few years later, one of the buddies I brought wore a Blair Walsh jersey that day. Just awesome).

And then of course the debacle against the Rams the other night.

EDIT: And then they piled on with something I had never heard (a touch before my time but not much); they said the Vikings did not score ONE SINGLE POINT in the first half in any of their 4 Super Bowl losses. Holy shit.

Thanks, I feel so much better😃

I was debating whether to use poison or the car in the garage, but not both?

Mike Florio open big mouth . Seriously when will he shut the hell up.

Well, yes. There's a reason the Browns, Lions and Jets etc. are not on the list. You can't lose a play-off game if you almost never play in one.

Can't argue with that. But we still have the Wolves to balance it out with those franchises.

Those ‘fun’ regular seasons though.

That would mean they’ve made the playoffs exactly 50% of their seasons (32 of 64). That has to be near the top since they came into existence in 1961.

The chances of winning at least one Super Bowl in 32 chances has to be extremely high.

I like this mock for the Vikings.

I know we need help on the OL, but I am not a fan of taking IOL in the first round. When was the last time a great guard was taken in the 1st? You can find those guys in the mid rounds just as easily as in the 1st round.

I am willing to bet a lot of money that the Vikings trade back to accumulate more picks, unless there is a surprise player that falls to them in the 1st.

Oh yeah, the Vikings are 3rd in most wins since the Super Bowl era began. Yet they haven't been to the Super Bowl in 48 years.

Watch the doc I posted in the other thread. The Vikings not having won a SB defies everything.

We are picking toward the end of the first. That's the perfect place to pick one. Corners, edge rushers, quarterbacks, and tackles are all being taken. You can get one of the top interior lineman in the draft.

After that we aren't picking until late third round if lucky.

Also, you are starting a rookie qb more than likely. It would be good if we don't get him killed.

You then sign Young in free agency and off we go.

Even more remarkable is they have made the playoffs 24 times since their last Super Bowl appearance. If we say, on average the Vikings have a 15% chance of making it to the Super Bowl each of those playoff appearances, there is over a 98% chance they should have achieved it at least once.

I have nothing to back this up other than my own observation and maybe this is more of a Vikings thing than an NFL thing but it seems high IOL draft picks are much more of a crapshoot than T.

Meh our whole offensive line is made up of 1st and 2nd rounders. And everyone still complains about how terrible it is.

I understood the logic to go for it at midfield, if you punt have to hope they pin them deep and Rams are content to go to the locker room up 14. Otherwise, plenty of time for LA to get into FG range and make it a 3 score game.

Really not big on the play call, taking a sack and thus putting the Rams already in FG range and an even shorter field to put it away.

Gambled. Failed.

I would have punted too, but honestly I don't think it would have made much difference.

Pretty much why I'm over good regular seasons. They're better than being bad every regular season, but wake me up when the playoffs begin.

I don’t think there’s anyone I would trust less than Florio.
Combined with Glazers report of teams offering a trade for KOC, I'm not ruling out the possibility that there is indeed some friction.

Since the Bud Grant era how many truly "great regular seasons" have there been?

1998
2009
2017
2024

Even this year, while the Vikings record was a gaudy 14-3, I never really believed they were better than Detroit (or Philadelphia).

Sure I thought they had a chance to beat the Lions, but that was based more on their injury situation. They've lost 5 straight to Detroit. That's no fluke.

If you're 14-3 you should be a Super Bowl contender. They were not close, so if you consider this a great season, you have to consider 2022 a great season because I think they were very similar.

And I'm not here to argue good vs great, but even 10-6 and 11-5 are good regular seasons where they should be able to compete for the title.

You have multiple people in this thread saying the Rams are a better team than the Vikings, and they are, but they were still only 10-7. I wouldn't consider that great, but they can still make a run to the Super Bowl. I'll take that any day over 14-3.

Not that we needed anything to tell us how bad he was but…

Maybe throw 2000 in there? First round bye and were favorites to beat then Giants in the NFC Championship. Certainly a great opportunity at least.

These mock drafts are almost always based on need. I pay no attention to any of them.

This. The notion that the Rams are far and away better than the Vikings is...a curious take. All the qualifying teams have championship potential. Haven't the Packers won it all as a 6 seed? It comes down to how well you play. Some teams play well, and some lay eggs.

Mahomes for KOC, let's go!!!
