All Things 2025 Minnesota Vikings Off-Season Thread

If this happens, then it puts to rest any chance that Darnold will be back.
yep......and then you go another defensive tackle at pick 24 and this defense then can become crazy good.

Especially if Dallas Turner comes on.

they'd still have a ton of money to look at an offensive guard.

Why would you need another DT at that point? They run a 3-4 and Harrison Phillips is pretty good.

I agree and I would hope that such clamor from the fanbase would be completely ignored.

That's too simplistic of a view point. Maybe by that point if healthy with full offseason prep and training camp, they may believe he's "truly ready". He'll have been in the building for 18 months at that point, that's a lot of prep time and I trust they will have a gage on his abilities.

Why can't it be like Daunte Culpepper? On the bench for all of Year 1. Took the Vikes to the NFC Championship his 1st year playing. Denver and Washington had true rookies last year. It worked out, leading both to the post-season.

As for "how the Wilfs do things" I think they have demonstrated that they let the football staff make whatever is the best decision on what to do without any interference.
If they don't then they hired the wrong people to begin with.
Bold 1: the main difference for me is that McCarthy wasn't on the bench in a traditional way. He couldn't practice physically all year, just mental reps. That's not the same thing.

Clearly, Daniels at Wash and Stroud last year for Houston had great true rookie seasons. So that's obviously possible. But so are Williams at Chicago and Young at Carolina.

Bold 2: I agree 100% that Wilfs don't interfere. Because they don't have to. They set the decree from leadership early on about baseline philosophy and expectations and they hired coaches who agree to those from the start. That we don't tank, that we try to win games to the best of our ability, that we deliver winning seasons to our fanbase. The Vikings way.

That doesn’t make any sense when rookies start and have success in the NFL with less time with the team than JJM has had.
I respect your opinion and you're probably more likely to be right than me. We will see

My thing is also predicated on having Darnold, DJones, or someone of that caliber on the roster still. If there isn't, then obviously McCarthy will start week 1.

My gut just says he won't, until later in the year.

because phillips is overused and they run him into the ground.

Also, we need another one who brings pressure from the middle.

Philly rotated their defensive line with many players. We have no depth to speak of.

Signing Milton would make it more palatable to use #24 on a stud OG if Tyler Booker is there and fill a huge hole on our other line.

If they sign him, they have too many other needs to take another DT with their 1st round pick.

I think it's a near lock they trade out of the 1st round. They also need to take a RB in the first 3 rounds. Much like they needed to take a QB in last years loaded QB class, they need to take a RB in this year's loaded RB class.
