All Things 2025 Minnesota Vikings In-Season Thread

They either needed to tank or find out if JJ can play QB. Neither of those happened. There are in no mans land right now. Millions over the cap with huge holes to fill.
I don't think it's that bleak. They have been on an every other year cycle under KOC. I'd put money on the over of 9.5 wins next year.

That may be the craziest game I have ever seen.
The agony of ravens coaches, players, and fans. Ugh

Love that for Thielen!! Crazy 4th quarter.

Will definitely be rooting for Thielen and the Steelers in the AFC.

Pains me to think of what could have been. Rodgers playing awesome, even ran for a first down earlier. Our roster and especially defense playing better here at the end.

I was right all along

SKOR North indicated earlier in the week that there had never been a Last Place Division Team in the NFL with 8 wins, much less 9.

Either it was reported wrong, or I misheard because indeed the 2022 Commandos went 8-8-1 and finished 4th on the NFC East.

Likely my error. My bad.

I would argue that they did answer that question, and the answer is 'no' because he continues to get hurt.

Absolutely need another option at QB next season.

Jackson must be another one of those players that was selected by someone in the building other than Kwesi. Can't be him, right?

We’ll see if any of the KAM bashers, dap that up🤷‍♂️

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, NFL GM is the toughest gig for non-players in any league.

All I hear is people complain about the “holes” the yeah has - like other teams don’t have them all so🤦‍♂️.

I’ll throw in some Theo Jackson love who played his nards off down the stretch when he got more snaps - as he started 8 games this season; KAM signed him off the Titans practice squad in 2022.

I'd be a little more impressed if we could draft anyone outside of the first round.

I mean, last year alone they drafted Will Reichard in the 6th round, arguably the best kicker in football, and then Jurgens and Levi Drake Rodriguez in the 7th round, both of whom played significant minutes and big roles this year, coming in as backups and performed

true, and I love Reichard

The other two filled in but won't do anything to get us over the top.

Interesting note from The Athletic on Udinski that I kinda forgot about and hadn't heard how much of an impact he has. Now the OC with the Jags, he's sure helped make Lawrence a much better player this year.

>>"One of the underrated and underdiscussed factors in the Vikings’ offensive ineptitude this season was losing former assistant offensive coordinator/assistant quarterbacks coach Grant Udinski to the Jacksonville Jaguars.

During the season, even early on, multiple team sources explained that Udinski’s absence affected quarterback preparation and pass-game design.

“We should have done everything we could to keep him,” one team source said earlier this year.

Last season, the Vikings quarterbacks were effusive in their praise of Udinski and quarterbacks coach Josh McCown. McCown brought decades of quarterbacking wisdom, and Udinski knew the ins and outs of O’Connell’s intricate system".<<

From the article 😀, regardless the OL injuries and this is really frames it well -

It’s also essential to note the Vikings’ preferred starting five — left tackle Christian Darrisaw, left guard Donovan Jackson, center Ryan Kelly, right guard Will Fries and right tackle Brian O’Neill — played only 83 snaps together.

One team source noted this number as the most notable from the season. Contrast these circumstances with the Chicago Bears, who had their revamped interior trio together for over 70 percent of the offensive snaps this season.

We easily make the playoffs and likely win the division if our OL was healthy 40% of the time.

You need contributors, which they were.

Not every player, especially in the later rounds. Is a difference maker🤷‍♂️

Mackey said the vikes place 3 bets on the qb positions and lost on each one.
What were the bets beside gambling on JJ?

The JJ / Darnold thing was 1 bet - I agree, we lost.
Daniel Jones chose to go to Indy because he thought he had a better chance. We were never dealt cards.

Wouldn't counting on Daniel Jones re-signing but being forced to pivot to first Sam Howell and then Wentz be considered "bets"?

Wentz getting injured ultimately resulted in going bust on those bets.

I just don't know if I would consider someone not signing with you a bet. I guess you could consider it a bet if we're saying we would have went after Russell Wilson or another more-prominent backup but for the pursuit of Daniel Jones.

Who? Russ Wilson was worse than Wentz. I am sure there are guys reasonable people would have been better than Wentz, but I'm not seeing many.

For me, it all stems from one decision that did not work out. They decided to move forward with JJ McCarthy as QB and it didn't work out this year. That meant they chose him over Darnold, Aaron Rodgers, Daniel Jones, and maybe other options.
