All Things 2025 Minnesota Vikings In-Season Thread

Damn. Somebody dropped $60,000 on the Raiders, on the ML at +400, tonight for TNF against the Broncos. That is some serious disposable income. I heard another casino took another very big bet on them on the ML at +375.
Broncos playing with their food like always. Eventually it will burn them.

The Vikings are hosting free agent CB Asante Samuel Jr on Friday. I'm not sure how much he has left in the tank coming back from injury but we could certainly use some secondary depth. He visited GB yesterday and meets with DET on Saturday.

If we're being true to ourselves, and talking about our mindset before last weekend:

which of these games would you have said was more difficult than @ Detroit?

None of them.

We just won, the hardest game.

Now obviously, we aren't going to now go undefeated through all these. Of course not. But not a single one should scare us, given what we just did.

Ravens are a 4.5 point favorite.
Each week, ESPN has 3 reporters pick the games and nfl.com has 5 reporters pick the games. All 8 predicted Ravens to win Sunday.

Many are not yet convinced Vikes are for real. That is a pretty large spread going against the home team.

A big task Sunday. We have dug ourselves into a hole. A win against the Ravens would be huge. A loss means we need to go 6-2 or 7-1 rest of the way.

Both teams should be desperate. I think the ravens beat us but, to me, the game hinges on making Lamar a thrower and to stay in the pocket. They still don’t have the WR weapons to beat you consistently there and if we can do that, I like our offense to scrap enough. If we have to compete in a big play type track meet game, it’s going to get rough

Yes. My understanding as well is their oline and pass rush are nothing special.

I listened to Pete Bercich the other day raving about how excellent has been Kyle Hamilton this season. Sigh 🙁...

We're all armchair experts here but even the thought of knowing we could've had a Safety pairing of Hamilton and Winfield Jr. is quite depressing.

Was really hoping for the longshot notion that Okudah could have been a diamond in the rough, resurrected his career, etc. When he's not stinking it up in the Vikings secondary, he's out injured. Win some, lose some, I guess

Passing on Winfield Jr made sense at the time because they had Harry in his prime and Anthony Harris franchise tagged and coming off of a huge season. Safety wasn't a need at that time so I don't blame the Vikings much for that.

Passing on Hamilton was just dumb.

Hamilton had questions around a knee injury that cost him a lot of time the year he came out, wasn't a great tackler, and didn't have elite speed. He also kinda blew his combine which really cost him

And the great and all-wise Ed Donatell wanted Cine instead of Hamilton.

don't really see a reason to get a QB. If JJ goes down, the season is really going to be about evaluating what they have on the roster as they weren't going to find a FA or trade deal gamebreaker anyway so see what you have in Max to find out if you're going to cut him or keep as your clipboard guy if need be
Especially as next year they NEED to hit some things in the draft so you need all the draft capital you can have
A very patient vikes fan. I never seen one IRL.

For me, was a lot of fun watching our defense take Goff, Gibbs, and co. to the woodshed last Sunday.

But, also, what a difference in how our offensive line handled the lions compared to last season. Especially the playoff game.

I believe I feel good about the oline stacking quality games going forward if can stay healthy.
Not as sure about the defense. Our linebackers/edge rushers are second to none. Can our dlinemen and secondary keep pace?

Lewis in an Athletic article before the trade deadline speculated, they'd acquire a vet backup corner as they are extremely thing with Okuduh (sp?) out with a concussion.

Maybe a Duke Shelly reunion is in the offing?

Ravens were 2-5 without Jackson. (Although all those losses were against quality teams.). Certainly the Ravens QB has a big advantage over our QB.
I want to believe the Vikings have a significant advantage in aggregate among the other 21 players. And that advantage is enuf to get us a win.

I'm going strong ala @gophersfan prediction route and seeing a W. I think B Flo got his groove back having a healthy D and will have some diabolical schemes for Lamar. I'm more concerned that Henry doesn't run us over, but Cash will be busy.

I was anti JJ when he was drafted, but he impressed me no end by his play last week - I thought the result would be similar to last year's playoff L. I think he continues to improve and the Ravens D isn't that good anymore, see the stat regarding their D efficiency, where we are better.

Fingers crossed.

How these teams match up from a data standpoint

Here is where each team ranks in 2025 in the following categories, using explosive play rate for explosiveness, success rate for efficiency and DVOA’s strength of schedule:
Vikes Ravens

Predictions

Lewis: Ravens 27, Vikings 20. Baltimore has been a team since it acquired safety Alohi Gilman from the Chargers. The move allowed them to weaponize Hamilton. The defense has benefited. Create a lead, energize the crowd and Minnesota will be squarely in this fight. The Jackson challenge is just too daunting for me to pick the Vikings.

Krawczynski: Ravens 30, Vikings 27. I loved what I saw from the Vikings on both sides of the ball last week in Detroit. Winning that game in that fashion means they’re capable of winning almost any time they step on the field. I worry that Jackson and Henry are such a devastating combination that they will turn this game into a shootout. And if it becomes that, I have to give the Ravens the edge over McCarthy and Justin Jefferson.

Yeah, 4 1/2 pt home dogs makes no sense to me. Feels like should be closer to a toss up.

Let's hope those geniuses Sid despised are wrong again.

There's been some quiet chatter that Harbaugh's seat might be getting a little toasty.

I'm still shocked they didn't break through once and get to a SB with Lamar when their D was all world. Mahomes seems kinda like Jordan who befuddled the Knicks/Pacers all those years, as he has the Ravens/Bills. - that would frustrate me more.

In Jackson's last 10 starts.....the ravens have scored at east 28 points in all of those games

Damn!
