I know you gave this strong opinion about how we can't protect him and so on. But I trust NFL coaches, particularly ours, over you. If they say he should not make his first start in a few weeks against a pissed off Eagles team out for blood, then they are correct and you are not.

(To be fair, I fully acknowledge that if they do choose to start him, then I am wrong and you are right.)

A disastrous start against the Eagles, such as his last start, guarantees that he becomes the next Bryce Young.

I can't see how that's a good outcome for anyone involved.


(Not to mention that Wentz starting against his former team will have the NFL and TV execs drooling. Of course, that's not a valid consideration for us, but just saying, will easily be the #1 talker in the league next week.)

I bet I could go to the thread for last season and find people complaining about a lack of pass rush from our DL. (In particular one poster, but guessing multiple.)

So we got rid of Phillips and signed pass rushers.


And now the complaint has switched to lack of run defense.
 

Was the signing of Thielen a waste? Doesn't seem like he did much. I remember some key drops he has had for us, more than I remember what he has done this year.


Should we have kept Phillips and not signed Thielen?
 

By the way, Allen is 30 years old (2017 first round pick) and Pro Bowl 2021 & 2022.
Hargrave is 32 years old (2016 third round pick) and Pro Bowl 2021 & 2023.

Is that old? Honest question.

I would say no, but others may disagree.

given thielen as of now is costing us about 1 million/catch, yes that was a terrible trade.

Don't think keeping Phillips is the question, but more could you have done better with the money addressing lack of LB depth or done better addressing the OL
 


The only move on the OL that has turned out bad is Kelly, because he can't stay healthy. Dude has to retire, plain and simple.

Center requires the least raw physical ability*. (* assuming 40 fronts are the majority, which it still is at this time) Brandel can handle those duties the rest of the season, just fine.


They drafted first round for one guard, signed another (who has been great), and already had Pro Bowl bookend tackles.

All have been hurt and out (other than Fries).

As Burnsie would say: whaddya gonna F'ing do???

Not only was Thielen a terrible trade, they drafted a WR in the 3rd round that apparently isn't any good either.

To be fair our pass defense has significantly improved over last season so far. But I also think that has a lot to do with the QBs we've played against so far.

I enjoy your posts and passion for the Vikings. It's not about being "right or wrong" for me...probably because I'm wrong a lot. 🙂

I just don't believe in coddling a guy that we invested the #10 overall pick in. The NYG just threw out a rookie QB that more than held his own against the same struggling PHI team we play next.

I understand the injury aspect of your opinion but JJM could just as likely take a huge hit or twist his knee against even the worst team in the NFL.

I know we're both hoping that JJM ultimately proves to be our franchise QB. 👍

I greatly enjoy your posts and the posts of most others in this thread (some I could do without).

It's an interesting and fair point you bring up about Dart. He has played the last three weeks, granted that last week he was worse than his first week, but clearly played well against PHI this week.

On the other hand McCarthy hasn't played since Sept 14 and was hurt in the game. Would be his first action in 5 calendar weeks. (I don't know to what degree I really buy the injury bit, anyway, but regardless) And his first two games were horrendous 7/8 quarters.

That's enough for me to declare that it isn't the same thing as Dart.


Me personally, I don't care one bit if McCarthy becomes a franchise QB for us. We already reaped the main advantage of having a rookie QB: that so much less of the cap goes to the QB room and can thus be spent elsewhere. We got that, regardless. And then happened to be extremely lucky in finding a cheap vet who is performing.

It's BYE week. Zero reason to give any information.

It will be the #1 talker in the league next week, who should/will start. My guess they'll both be available and we'll only find out at the start of the game (or shortly before it will leak out)
