All Things 2025-26 Minnesota Wild Season Thread

The fact that the Oilers can't seem to figure out their Goalie situation no matter what they try to do is just absolutely entertaining as hell. Poor McJesus.

What a crazy outdoor game that was. Bruins cruising along up 5-1 only to get in penalty trouble and Lightning score 3 power play goals to make it 5-4 going into the third. Lightning tie it up and win in a shootout. Oh and there was a goalie fight to boot

Let’s hope Caufield doesn’t show up Guerin again tonight

With 3 assists last night, Quinn Hughes has now tied Ryan Suter for the most 3+ assist games in #mnwild franchise history by a defenseman with 5. Ryan Suter played 656 games for the Wild.

1. Current playoff format is stupid
2. 2 point system is stupid

Fix both of these things.

3. 3 on 3 OT sucks
4. Shootouts suck even more
5. There's nothing wrong with ties.

Mine can apply to NHL and college hockey.

True but I just don't see them going back on those any time soon
Way back when (Bobby, Dino, Payne days), didn't the NHL use to have a Playoff format that gave the Conference winners the Top 2 seeds and then bracketed the next 14 teams based on their records regardless of which Conference they played in?

I seem to remember something similar to that.

agree on the point system. why a win in regulation isnt more rewarded when you're giving out loser points is dumb.

i go back and forth on the playoff format. I like the rivalry aspect it encourages, but it also can put your upper teams hitting each other early and getting worn down then being worn down rolling into a series vs a team they were better than all year. home ice by conf finals reverts to best record at least

was previously div winners got top 3 then rest seeded until 2013. then the rest was just by record. Now you get 3 from each division and 2 wild cards. think there are merits to both

I am perfectly fine with ties and absolutely hate shootouts. I’m fine with 3 on 3 though. If tied after that then so be it

8-1-1 record into the break, 5 straight W's.
Hughes makes such a huge difference (breaking news)

they really need to get the goaltending figured out. giving up way too many goals right now and have dropped all the way to 8th in GA/G with 3.23/game since Hughes got here (that would be 23rd in the league).

That being said, you have to be pleased with where they're at and the idea of home ice. They're scoring and a hell of a lot more fun to watch, so at least they've got that if nothing else. Certainly should be a threat to win the cup if they can get/stay healthy

I'm sure it's just an odd coincidence but hasn't it been about since Hughes arrived that the goaltending went in the tank? Or was it slightly before he showed up? I'd have to check the records but it was around there it seemed?

you would be correct. we've changed style and are much more free wheeling (and I'd guess the forwards also a little more lax) given he plays half the game. we've also had a slew of injuries on the blueline which hasn't helped. It's always been the knock on Hughes is that he'll give you a ton of points/scoring, but a question of his size defensively. Wall and Gus still have some crazy GSAA so its not like they've turned into Skinner or something.

I think the scoring is only going to get better, but they as a team do need to circle back to how they were playing defensively as well as Hughes should also be an upgrade there over what they sent out.

We'll see where it goes as they've also been getting a ton of supplemental scoring too.

Hughes isn’t know for his defensive prowess. Unlike most defenseman where defense comes first it’s the opposite with Hughes. I for one can live with it but to go far in the playoffs you need all three factors clicking, offense, defense and special teams. Oh and above average goaltending

Never in a million years would I have guessed before the season started that a very good argument could be made for Kaprizov being the 4th most valuable player on the team.

Hughes - absolute approach changing player
Boldy - all-around game is impressive - very good penalty killer, great on PP, amazing hands and body control
E-Ek - dude does everything, complete glue guy

Faber is pretty good too...............

Watching high level talent every night is really fun.........

"The break is a blessing and a mild curse for the Wild. On one hand, Minnesota will send seven players to Italy, nearly a third of the roster, which is a point of pride and a physical gamble. Matt Boldy (United States), Brock Faber (U.S.), Quinn Hughes (U.S.), Joel Eriksson Ek (Sweden), Filip Gustavsson (Sweden), Jesper Wallstedt (Sweden), and Nico Sturm (Germany) all will be skating on the sport's biggest stage, while Jonas Brodin (Sweden) was kept home because of injury. That kind of representation speaks to how strong and balanced this roster has become. On the other hand, the timing is brutal. The Wild have a rhythm going, something no team wants interrupted. There is no easing back in when the season restarts. Two trips to Colorado in 11 days, road games in Utah and Vegas, and home dates against St. Louis and Tampa Bay make for a punishing restart. The good news is that Minnesota has built enough cushion that this stretch is more about sharpening habits than survival, making the break a calculated pause rather than a threat." -- Paul Strizhevsky, staff writer
