All Things 2025-26 Minnesota Wild Season Thread

This one surprised me. Wild don’t usually play well in these early games especially on the road. Once again the Gus was not real good

Vegas makes the move they've been pursuing since last spring; Acquiring D-man Rasmus Andersson from Calgary. Swinging for the fences again. The price sounds awfully steep but damn Andersson is most definitely a Top-pair Defenseman.

Expect teams to make some more moves before the NHL roster freeze before the Olympics.

Who gave up more...Vegas or the Wild?

Damn. Impossible to say for probably another couple years, all the primary assets are so young. Whitecloud is a very experienced defenseman, responsible, 2nd pair, maybe even 3rd pair on a really good team. But an expendable asset for sure. No clue how the good UND defenseman will be. He's clearly a late bloomer. The draft picks.... meh, the VGK draft picks are almost always at least in the mid-20's or later.

All the guys the Wild sent to Vancouver have shown they can already at least play in the NHL, even if they are bottom-6 forwards. Buium sure seems like a big piece, but Hughes is elite as well

Vegas wanted/needed an elite Right-Hand D-man, which certainly don't grow on trees.

For me, the real question will be what kind of contract do they have to give him. They've got Theodore and Hanifin already signed to long-term $7.3M/AAV type deals, have to imagine Andersson's will be at least in that ballpark, whereas I would think the Wild would have to pay Hughes $10-$11M/AAV?

EDIT: Almost forgot, one thing that has to be factored in, if you want to compare; the price Vegas paid was slightly high because of Calgary retaining the max 50% of Andersson's remaining contract this season, making his cap hit this year only $2.25M or so instead of his $4.5M. Vegas loves to throw around draft picks to entice people to retain salary

Wow. San Jose makes a move, seeing that there's enough of a chance for them to make playoff waves this year to add to their roster.

Wild with a nice start in Toronto tonight. 2-0 in the first

4-1 Wild halfway through the second. Tarasenko with 2

I took the Over on the Goalie Saves for the Toronto goalie, Woll. Easy money, Toronto gives up the most SOG at Home in the entire NHL; gives them up like candy on Halloween.

Looks like smooth sailing for the Wild!
He got pulled after the second period. 5-2 now

I mean...back to back posts written like perfectly timed comedy. 😂

I can hear Jim McKay's voice in the back of my head saying "From the thrill of victory...to the agony of defeat" while watching some poor ski jumper from Europe disintegrate himself on the slopes.

F*ng brutal. I guess I was slightly wrong, he was 1.5 saves from the number, not 0.5; number was 25.5 and he finished with 24 after 2 periods. So my logic was flawless anyway, as Toronto coughed up 38 SOG to the Wild.

Article in The Athletic tonight about possible trade partner homes for Panarin from the Rangers; a brief mention of the Wild but quickly dismissed because the Wild need a Center way more than a Winger. Plenty of teams interested, but not many with the assets to pull it off and/or the salary cap space to do it.

Speaking of that ski jumper. Did he actually die after that crash? Man that brought back memories of religiously watching Wide World of Sports every Saturday

Tarasenko already had two (2) goals tucked away in his breezers and an empty net in front of him. Then he decided to feather the puck over to Foligno so he could get the first hat trick of his career.

That speaks volumes for what's going on in the Wild locker room.
