All Things 2025-26 Minnesota Wild Season Thread

At the same time, the VGK locking up Mitch Marner for $12M/yr is looking like an incredible deal right now. Is KK97 really markedly better than Marner?

Edmonton is in a really rough spot with McDavid and that contract. His number HAS to be not just more but a few ticks more than KK97, right? So much for VGK getting Eichel for the sub-$13M number I was pretty sure they could get him at.

Why is VGK playing an afternoon Home game on Friday against the Avs? Some Halloween tradition?

Nevada Day!!

State holiday in Nevada, always observed on the last Friday of October, when Nevada became a state. They do it every year if I recall. I'm guessing with no kids in school, they hope for better attendance, etc. I'll be hunting

Interesting, thanks.

Not Wild-related but hockey related, and I'd rather not start a new thread about it so I'm curious to know some thoughts from hockey fans here.

Not sure who all followed the "hockey Canada scandal" with the group of guys having sex with the one girl; they were all acquitted, but all served suspensions for breaking the Code of Conduct rules, etc.

VGK signed one of the players, former Flyers goalie Carter Hart. They are facing some backlash from a small contingent of folks, not sure just how loud it will get.

My limited following of the case, the girl really didn't look good; the judge, a female judge no less, essentially called the Accuser a liar in the ruling that was handed down. Sure, Vegas is an organization that is known to stretch the boundaries on just about anything, some franchises wouldn't even think about signing one of these guys.

Thoughts? I'm always reluctant to crucify kids for shit they did when they were younger. My take on the Carter Hart signing is that, it's 2025; you can find out anything you need to know about anybody, whether or not they are really a bad guy, etc. It's not like Vegas thought, "He's a rapist, but we really need a goalie so let's do it". Zero chance.

seems like a dumb move from a PR standpoint and then the locker room distraction. probably not how I would've phrased my press release about core values when the NHL said the group, even though not guilty, didn't uphold those.
That said, pro sports is a winner take all mentality. If they win the cup, no one who's a Vegas fan will care

I'm no VGK defender but he was found not guilty in a court of law, plain and simple. It sounds like if he was guilty of anything it's putting himself in a situation where something worse could have happened, but if we're going to crucify everyone who did that as a teenager then we're all in trouble.

For me, it brings up one of my favorite sayings/mantras that applies to just about every vocation and aspect of life; does your talent outweigh your baggage. Plain and simple. So my question in this case, is he a good enough goalie to take on the PR hit? I recall him being GOOD, not sure he's elite?

VGK has a kid in the pipeline, Carl Lindbom, who made his NHL debut Sunday on the road against a really good Tampa Bay team and was exceptional. They have some other promising talent in the system as well.

For Vegas, I'm sure it's basically a cheap way to take a flyer on someone who could fill a need. I'm a little disappointed by the backlash, but not unexpected. People love to hate us anyway.

it had been a long time since he'd been above average in my mind, so personally i don't really see him being so. that said, he's a cheap option for the baggage reasons. i wouldn't have wanted the potential distraction in the locker room
