All Things 2025-26 Minnesota Twins Off-Season Thread

Tony Gwynn only struck out 434 times in 10232 PA; I checked his baseball reference after I saw the video

Wasn’t familiar that TheBabe hit three in one game at the end up his career to reach 714 and did it for the Boston Braves.

A little more to the story:

Are the twins gonna ship out Pablo, Ryan, and Byron this off season? Seems like a bold strategy to drive ticket sales. Targeting field is gonna be a funeral all season.

Today, ESPN ranked the MLB Top 25 most likely players to be traded this offseason:

5. CF Byron Buxton
6. SP Joe Ryan
8. SP Pablo Lopez

I'm pretty certain at least one of them will be traded but don't think they will trade all three.
If only one (1) guy had to go, which player would you part with? Keeping Ryan and Lopez at the top of the rotation would probably have me leaning towards Buxton.

I guess it just depends on what the goal is. I'd prefer to keep all 3 but if they're going for a complete long term rebuild, then I'm guessing Ryan gets the biggest return since he's youngest and cheapest salary wise? But might as well get rid of all of them if they trade him IMO. If they're looking to free up money to get other players, then Pablo makes the most sense as he's making the most (lets be honest, that's unlikely the plan). Buxton is older but more exciting so he might get more of a return than Lopez.

Completely guessing here.

I agree...if you're going to trade one (1) of them, you might as well trade them all. No sense in keeping the two (2) on a roster that will be struggling to even sniff a WC spot.

The problem is I don't trust Falvey's trade making abilities and good luck selling that strategy to ticket buyers.

Plus you can only add so much "major league ready" talent. The 40 man is currently full. Sure, there are 5-6 guys on it like Mickey Gasper who should be removed but they still have to rebuild a bullpen etc. as well.

They should have just taken the best offer and sold. Whatever their long-term plan is to perhaps sell after the lockout, they are nuking the fan base in the process and damaging the value of the franchise as much as any new CBA might enhance it.

I'm going to be in the VAST majority of Twins fans on this but I'd have far more interest watching a ML roster comprised of our top prospects that loses 110 games than a "veteran" roster that wins 75.

Of course, bringing up the young guys starts their arbitration clock early and we know how that song plays out with the Twins ownership and/or FO.

I don't think it has to be either/or. There are open spots in the rotation for the young pitchers without trading Ryan/Lopez. And they can start Jenkins/Gonzalez/Rodriguez in LF etc.

But I agree that there's no point in staying in the middle. That's why I'd either trade none of them or all 3. Either return the payroll to $125-130 million and complete for a very weak division or trade all 3 and have a $65 million payroll. There's no sense staying at $95 million and still finishing 4th. I would prefer option A.

If you trade one, what's the logic of holding on to the other two?

It would only be logical if the return brought in MLB ready/proven talent that shores up one of their other many needs.

If it's just for prospects/suspects as pretty much all of the recent trade deadline bloodshed transactions, then yeah...if one goes the others should go as well.

They all need to be set free.

Also it’s now December how are those limited partners coming along. Any announcement coming about who they are.

The chances are even less if you trade everyone else away.
Unfortunately it's like 5% vs 0%. If they are trying to contend in 2026, keep all 3. If they're not, you have to trade Ryan. There may not be an off-season next year and his trade value for only a shortened 2027 or at the trade deadline in 2027 will be a fraction of what is right now.

The New York Mets are interested in trading for Minnesota Twins right-hander Joe Ryan, according to Jon Heyman of the New York Post.

Meanwhile, the Twins are fond of Mets pitching prospect Jonah Tong, reports Heyman.

Ryan would instantly become the No. 1 starter in a Mets rotation that is projected to include Kodai Senga, Nolan McLean, Clay Holmes, Sean Manaea, and David Peterson for the 2026 season

They’re apparently going to try and fill two of those slots with Marco Rayna and Connor Prieluip (sp), who are both already on the 40; the will get extended looks in Spring training, per the best writers on MLB & Athletic.
