All Things 2025-2026 Minnesota Timberwolves In-Season Thread

I don’t know why you’d think magically they’re going to listen to say someone like Malone. These are professionals. Finch is a professional. If they’re choosing to not listen, then that’s a leadership problem which I’d assume means is an Ant problem. I don’t buy it

If you wanna say he’s a bad crunch time coach and the team wilts in part because of him, fine.

I think this is more roster construction. Ddv as your other guard off ant is a terrible stretch backcourt. Would’ve rather rode the hot hand of TJ tonight as he can create his own a bit and has a better handle. We need one of those guys to develop or this roster is shot
Connelly

You can't have ddv as ants back court mate. It cost them vs suns too. Game tied, all the momentum, and ddv gets ripped.
Finch has flaws, no doubt, but the guy has literally zero options when it comes to a composed ball handler at crunchtime. We've been told repeatedly on this board that we don't need a true PG when we have Ant. We were told wrong.

Most of us knew that all along.

To blame Finch for having no true PG on the roster is like blaming the waitress because the food tastes like shit. The finger pointing starts with Connelly...and he's the only one that can fix it because the answer doesn't lie within the current roster.

1) I don't think you can win with Rudy Gobert, his shooting and free throws are hard to watch. So many passes to Rudy, turn into turnovers, because he can't catch a ball.
2) We make a lot of stupid fouls
3) I have always like Finch, but he may be the cause of our late game failures.

Happy Thanksgiving

How many NBA champion head coaches have there been who got their first head coaching job at 51? I will guess very few if any. He's a career assistant and if he wasn't he would have had a head coaching opportunity a lot earlier.

Continuing to blame this on not having a point guard you guys like is still nonsense. They came out of the timeout down the stretch with no plan and lazy, undisciplined play. That's more coaching than anything. It's the same shit we've seen for years despite having different players.

You think the Wolves PG situation is bad? Houston's is worse and they are 11-4. They average nearly the same TO's per game and assists per game too.

And in these games there has to be a little more output from either Randle or McDaniel.

The age at which he’s hired argument doesn’t really track to me as being relevant. Phil Jackson, Pat Riley and Gregg Popovich got their first NBA HC jobs in their mid to late 40s.

TBH I’m not really a big finch fan and would be fine if they moved on, I just see more issues with how they constructed the roster rather than a coaching issue given what NBA GMs who know way the hell more the we do say he runs the second best offense, is getting votes for best defense, and is getting votes for in game adjustments as well. He’s helped that Nori seems to also be very good, but I just don’t think this is a staff issue

Ant is a disaster down the stretch too many times. Especially when he is directing the offense. Dilly is a bust. Mike is washed up. Donte can't dribble or pass. This team is wasting the positives it possesses.

PG Reed Sheppard had 31/9/5 tonight for HOU in a 4-point road win against GS. He's shooting 49% on FGs and 47% on 3FGs for the season after playing behind FVV last year as a rookie.

Why you continue to try to convince yourself that this team isn't crippled by the lack of a viable option at PG is beyond me. A majority of our losses this year are defined by this weakness.

This is our dream point guard.

He is a stud on ball defender. He can score, handle the ball, and fits the age we are looking for.

We would just take off.

I don't think they'd trade him, though.

This stops a lot of penetration, allows McDaniels and Edwards to not have to guard the SGA's, etc.

I'd cry if this were possible.

Reed Sheppard is more of a small SG than a PG. He was also terrible last year and put up numbers nearly identical to Rob Dillingham. Then the Wolves staff decided they needed to change Robs shot and it broke him where as the Rockets staff is actually developing Sheppard. He's still not a PG though and neither is Amen Thompson.

Because the Wolves aren't crippled by a viable option at PG. It's just not true when many other teams win with a similar or worse PG situation. Houston is absolutely one of those.

There are no trade proposals for a PG that make the Wolves a better team. They're all just so people stop complaining about the PG position because they're living in the NBA from 20 years ago.

Maybe we can differentiate point guard from ball handler. Wolves need more ball handling. You can't have DDV as your other guard, as evident by getting ripped by sga when the game was tied.

Ddv can go as far as I'm concerned
