So backtracking a little bit since there hasn't been much talk.

Absolutely crazy that Alcarez flamed out so badly. He's not at a point where you expect him to be like the big three and in the semis every single slam but I sure didn't expect him to get pounded by an unseeded player.

Also watched Osaka's loss. She look like she taking a step forward overall but her forehand was just really wild.

Also saw azarenka win in spite of the fact that she was apparently dehydrated and suffering a migraine. They were checking her blood pressure in a medical break and she was wearing sunglasses.

And even as I write I'm watching Rublev take the first step towards another meltdown

Fritz versus Ruud right now. Ruud has started slow and his matches so hopefully that'll happen again and Fritz can jump on him
 

And whoa I didn't even realize Djokovic lost! Wow
 

Incredible match by Tiafoe!! He’s playing fantastic. Very tough matchup for him in the Quarters but we know the crowd will be rocking. Really hope one of these Americans can get to the finals.

This Paul/Sinner match is incredible, yet so frustrating. Paul couldn't be playing a better match, yet literally 1-2 points each set and he's now down two sets, both in tie-breakers. Sinner's ability to go from defense to offense is unmatched and his forehand is incredible.

Really feels like America's best chance to get a winner this year is Paul knocking out Sinner and opening up the draw even more. But Sinner is likely to close this out in 3. Bummer.

Huge opportunities tomorrow for Fritz and Tiafoe. If both win, we are guaranteed to have an American in the finals.

There was a long period of time when the top of the tennis world was rather static. The best players were legendary, yes, but one downside was that the names winning major tournaments repeated over and over and over again.

On the women's side, the United States was part of that static generation simply because of Serena Williams. The best tennis player ever won six U.S. Opens from 1999 to 2014.

That era is largely over, never more evident than at this year’s U.S. Open, where upsets have become the norm and the semifinal rounds have been crashed by a surprising crew: a group of Americans largely unfamiliar with this territory.
  • Since Serena's run, only two American women — Sloane Stephens (2017) and Coco Gauff (last year) — have won on the home court.
  • This time, Gauff lost early, but two new faces filled in: Jessica Pegula, who stunned No. 1 seed Iga Swiatek yesterday, and Emma Navarro, who beat Gauff in the round of 16. Pegula, 30, and Navarro, 23, play in opposite semifinals today.

  • The men’s side had been seeing dramatically less success by Americans. None have made the men’s final since 2006, Andy Roddick’s last appearance. He was also the last to win a U.S. Open (2003). The drought is real. Metaphorical crops are dying.

  • Enter Frances Tiafoe and Taylor Fritz, two passionate players who have shown flashes of extreme talent. The 26-year-olds play each other in a semifinal tomorrow, with the winner advancing to the final to face either No. 1 seed Jannik Sinner or No. 25 seed Jack Draper, who’s on a special run of his own.

This is the first U.S. Open with two American men and two American women in the semis. A new era? Maybe not yet. But at this tournament, things feel very fresh. That’s a good thing.

Great comeback last night for Pegula - the first set was rough to watch but she rebounded big time. Heck of a story - 30 year old making her first Slam final.

Sabalenka is such a tough player and has to be the favorite, but the crowd should be rocking.
