After being tied at the half the Johnnies poor shooting hurt them in a loss at Eau Claire 69-82. Might be another year with no at large bids for the MIAC.
 


Boy is Augsburg down. I checked their roster and they have no size - none. It's going to be a long year for the men at Si Melby Hall. Hopefully the women's team can win some games.
 

Winona, St Cloud and Mankato all won a pair at 2023 Central Region Classic last weekend in Kansas City. Think other part of the conference played in St Joseph MO while Southwest Minnesota won a pair and knocked off number one Northwest Missouri St. Northern Sun should have a great year.

Carleton College canceled the rest of the women's basketball season because of an injury-depleted roster. The Knights have 10 players but only six are medically cleared to play.

"Obviously this was a very difficult decision, and one that is disappointing for everyone involved," Carleton AD Gerald Young said in a news release. "However, the health and well-being of our student-athletes is paramount. Therefore, after consulting with our sports medicine staff, it became apparent this is in the players' best interest.

"It was also important to make the decision at this point to provide clarity to our MIAC and non-conference opponents."

As a resident current Carleton student on the board I can speak on this a bit. And the fact that my campus job is working for the sports info department. We started the season with 10 healthy players due to unexpected transfers and players from last season quitting the team before the season started. We were down to 6 healthy players because of a concussion, torn ACL, broken hand, and a shoulder injury. Could see the writing on the wall for a few weeks as more and more players went down hurt.

@Ghph4Lyfe - as an aside, I was in Northfield during the MIAC cross-country championships and stopped to watch the Carleton football game. The roster/info/stat sheet you put together was elite. Loved the background and historical info that was included.

Appreciate that. I love finding random facts that aren't discussed as much and throwing those in the game notes. If my memory serves me right that was the Bethel game, so not the prettiest product on the field. But if I can make the team look good for. those who haven't seen them play, I'm doing my job right.

Yep, it was Bethel. I gotta say I also like the Carleton stadium. Old-school solid concrete and steel, built like a war bunker. Plus the campus is great. Mostly just saw the cross-country area, but for those of you that haven't been there, here's the view from the stadium bleachers.

Yikes, bummer on the shorthanded roster to begin with. Transfer portal hits D3.

I was at the game yesterday, great notes. I am sure it wasn't you who was responsible for the program listing the opponent as "Hamline" instead of North Central. ;)

As for the game, the Knights got off to a great start (9-0 I think) then were in for a battle, with it being just a couple possession game into the final minutes. They executed down the stretch, 57-50. I like the promise of the big (Koelling) they got from Michigan. They will have to figure out quickly how to replace Becker's production with the Johnnie's in town next week.

The Men also have a couple of injuries. Noticed Sweat was in sweats.

Appreciate it. Thankfully it wasn't me who miswrote the opponent for the game. Start of the season for the Knights is definitely a tough start. Especially the trip out west on back-to-back days.

BURNSVILLE, Minn. – The Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Board of Directors approved the addition of the University of Jamestown (UJ) as the league’s 16th full-time member. The Jimmies will become official members of the league on July 1, 2025, pending their acceptance into the NCAA Division II membership process. UJ would participate in 17 of the NSIC’s 18 sponsored sports beginning in the 2025-26 academic year.

“The NSIC is excited to invite the University of Jamestown as the 16th member of the conference starting July 1, 2025,” stated NSIC Commissioner Erin Lind. “Throughout the application process, the strategic work Dr. Peterson and the University of Jamestown engaged in to prepare for the NCAA Division II and NSIC membership transition was evident. The University is well positioned and will be a valuable addition to the conference athletically and academically.”

St John's at Carleton was a barn burner in the MIAC Opener and Playoff Title Rematch.

Knights had a fast start and took an 8 pt lead at Half. Johnnies roared back early took the lead 5 minutes into the 2nd and were up as much as 9 pts with under 3 minutes to go.

Knight's managed to tie with 10 seconds left, but Johnnie's got the game winner with 4 seconds when Carleton could not answer with a buzzer beater. St John's 74 - Carleton 72.

Bummer that the students were on break. Pretty empty in the West Gym, stark contrast to the regular season and MIAC championship games last season.

As good as Carleton's PG is (Luke Harris) they are going to have to find other ways to score. The bulk of their offense during the comeback was to isolate and have him drive to either get a layup or more likely shoot FTs. He wound up with 31 pts, 17-20 from the charity stripe.

In a typical year that's probably true. So far this year the UMAC is 3-0 against the WIAC. Whitewater, Oshkosh and Platteville are all going to be really good but the ARC might be a little deeper league.
 

wacky game today - Augsburg men beat UW-Stout 113-111 in double OT.

Brody Fox, brother of Parker Fox, had 38 for Stout (with 0 3pt-ers made).

Auggies made - get this - 42 of 49 FT. and only 1 Stout player fouled out.

Both the Auggies' men and women have been pretty good over the past few year, but both were down last year and both appear to be way down this year. Former U women's assistant Ted Riverso is the women's coach, and Bakary Konate is listed as an assistant for the men, although he has no bio on the Auggie basketball site.

The Johnnies gave the Cobbers their first loss 77-70 last night, thanks to a 27 point effort from Thissen including 4-4 from 3. Found some highlights, but unfortunately they're completey one sided as some sports information departments think the only way to show highlights is to pretend their team won 100-0.

Crown beat Concordia Moorhead by 10. Handing them only their third loss of the year. Crown, a D3 school, played St. Thomas pretty tight two weeks ago. Their best player, Cade Carrol, is one of the best players in D3.
