What the heck, I'm not exactly a Wild fan but a hockey fan nonetheless so here goes.

What a way to start things; after the major buyouts of Suter and Parise, it sounds like Kaprizov has rejected a massive contract offer from the Wild.

I guess I get the thinking, but as they are quick to mention, he will be getting older at the end of this deal. It's hard not to think that taking this shorter deal also means he wants to leave the door open to signing somewhere else at that time if he doesn't like the way things are going at that point.

While a rookie, he's not the typical NHL rookie as he's 24 and played in Russian leagues that are quite competitive (probably closer to NHL caliber than AHL). Most North American superstars make their debuts before they are 21 or even younger.

Just saying, lots of factors that are not the norm with Kaprizov.

In my limited view, I think he's the real deal. I was in So Cal for a few years in the mid-90s, I am as excited about seeing him play as I was Paul Kariya for the Ducks.

We all wanted him locked up.

But you have to love a guy who is confident enough to bet on himself. He won't be lacking motivation.
