Nice game for my Gophers. Now about my Beavers.
They have a very talented, yet young roster. The lone senior should be today's starter, Travis Eckert.
Pat Casey has built a national powerhouse in the rainy pacific northwest. CWS in 1952, 2005, 2006, 2007, and 2014. Back to back national championships in 2006 and 2007 with virtually different teams.
The high preseason rankings are based on last years second place finish in the PAC 12 in what was supposed to be a rebuilding year after losing a ton of talent to the MLB draft. Casey's teams have been built on great starting pitching and great defense. Ironically, the huge question mark this year is the starting pitching after our Friday guy. Goph's catch a break in that the closer, Mitch Hickey, who was a first team freshman all american last year, and the presumed Sat. starter, Christian Martinek, will miss the series with injuries. Martinek would have been a very high MLB choice out of HS, but had to have Tommy John surgery and redshirted last year. 6'5" lefty with electric stuff.
The Beav's home, Goss Stadium, also has a railroad track running past the outfield, only much closer. Must be a rodent thing.
