With the season behind us and the off-season upon us, its time to transition to an off-season thread for Stollings & Co.
Don't see a problem. They were Borton's players. You'll see her recruit more athletic players like Kelly.
She'll mirror her program after Maryland.
Zahui B. leaving early would certainly be a big hit to the program. Is the WNBA money that great to lure her out early? Taurasi was getting around $107,000. Then again, who knows all the circumstances with Zahui B.? Surely not me.
Women's players usually play overseas as well and the money can actually be better than the WNBA. So that could factor in as well. I really hope she stays one more year at least. One of the things I like about the women's game is knowing I'm watching STUDENT athletes.
Also, in response to gopherhoopsguy, they have 3 recruits coming in next year. The aforementioned Garven, JUCO point guard Mercedes Jenkins and former DeLasalle guard Allina Starr who is transferring from Auburn.
There is also another JUCO Kynadi Johnson. She's a forward and hopefully looks to be replacing Shae Kelly.
I think she'll stay and leave with Banham next year. I don't think Banham would've returned if Zahui isn't...
STrib: Zahui's departure from Gophers leaves massive hole on shrinking roster
“We realize she is most likely a No. 1 pick in the draft, and that doesn’t come along very often,’’ Stollings said. “She wants to capitalize on that while she’s hot, and it’s certainly understandable.
“We’re already on the recruiting trail, and [looking for] who’s next. When you have something like this happen so quickly, I think it’s only a positive in terms of the big picture and our recruitment and what we’re trying to do with the program as a whole.’’
Stollings said she hoped Zahui would return, and she admitted it was “tough’’ for her team to hear the news when some observers were predicting the Gophers could be a Final Four team next season with Zahui and Rachel Banham. Banham, the Big Ten preseason player of the year, suffered a season-ending knee injury Dec. 10 but will come back for a fifth year of eligibility on a medical hardship waiver.

Go Gophers!!
I still can't believe AZB is leaving. I really thought it was a guarantee she would stay for one more year.
