Incarnate Word is one of the few new teams that popped up in the college basketball standings list that I had never heard of competing at this level before. The others included Massachusetts Lowell, Abilene Christian, and Grand Canyon - cupcakes coming to a city near you. Certainly the WAC fell off the ugly tree and hit all the branches on the way down.
 

And poor NJIT. All dressed up with no place to go. The only DI basketball program without a conference affiliation.

The only problem with that statement is that only Grand Canyon is going into the WAC. Abilene Christian, Incarnate Word, Houston Baptist, and New Orleans are all new members of the Southland, with Incarnate Word & Abilene Christian moving up from D2. Abilene Christian was one of the founding members of the Southland, so they are returning home just as Pacific is returning home to the conference they founded in the WCC. UMass-Lowell likewise is moving up from D2 and is joining the America East. Grand Canyon is also a D2 to D1 transitioning school located in Arizona.

As for saying that they're all going to be cupcakes, Abilene Christian happens to hold the most national titles of any team in the state of Texas not named The University of Texas at Austin, so they won't be a cupcake. They'll basically be getting more scholarships to build up upon an already successful program. Their main competition in D2 before they left was Central Arkansas, and they certainly haven't been a cupcake for any Southland team. Now they're rivals once more.

I didn't mean to imply that the teams I mentioned to be all part of the WAC, just new names (at least new to me) in the division. And with all due respect, Abilene Christian is a cupcake to a high major program. So is Central Arkansas. But I do appreciate you listing the WAC members to show how ugly it looks.
